5 on the bounce was always going to be tough, I had a sneaky suspicion we might struggle, something in me waters let's say.

I thought Palace might scrap for a draw, not play us off the park. Our past two results have been very unexpected.

The manager is right to rotate at this time of year, but unfortunately it has exposed us as how reliant we are at what we do well. This has been so for a number of years. Ranieri spotted it and tried to mix things up and it didn't work.

Yesterday we started a little disjointed and the belief just seemed to drain out of us. Credit to Hodgson, pressing us as a solid unit put us off our game.

I know people will think that I'm obsessed but I've just watched highlights again and Maguires defending is atrocious.

He was out of position for the first goal leaving Morgan and Simpson short. He was also marking Zaha for the second and completely left him free.

His positioning and marking are amongst the worst I've ever seen from a central defender.

He does some excellent things in just about every game but he's miles away from good enough generally. If he cannot improve, we must switch to a back three to accommodate his style.

A point about our preparation for this game too.

It appears as though there was a mess returning from Southampton with the plane not turning up and us eventually getting a coach back to Leicester at 3am.

My issue is that the players were then in for training that morning. This is usual the day after a game for a light session but given the circumstances and a game early on Saturday, surely a rest day would have made more sense? Or just stay overnight in Southampton and then fly back in the morning?

Poor organisation and management from the staff.

Unfortunately I agree, the positioning and basic defensive aspects of his game have been nowhere near good enough for a while.

Also, we are pathetic at defending anything high into the box, which makes our constant conceding of possession and narrowness on the right hand side seem strange.

Typical odd result you get - and have always got - during an intense run of games.

Palace have a good number of very decent players - not much different potential to Leicester. They were waiting for a manager to sort them out - not much different to Leicester.

We tend to get just a tad deluded.

AFAIK they were in that same morning at 9am according to Puel. They were entertained by the junior players and apprentices according to the Birch. Whether they did any actual work I don't know but I agree they would probably have been served better by having the day off completely.

Viciously cold.
Team played like muppets. Lost 3-0 to a team with less talent than us.
Did I mention how cold it was?If I had watched it at The Union the team would have still played badly but at least I would have been warm.
Football - bloody hell. Need whisky.

I think you must be getting ill or old or possibly both. Wasn't half as cold as at last 2 home games.

Is the Union still a Marston's pub?

In the 70's CAMRA used to meet there and the landlord would order a cask or firkin of Pedigree. Having it straight out of the wood was incredible. Best beer I've ever tasted by far.

I was impressed with how Palace set up. They closed down space in midfield and sprung forward with pace & strength. Mahrez has been dropping in between the lines in the last couple of games, creating lots of space etc. Palace did their homework and denied him that. We looked a bit leggy as well, maybe the trips to Newcastle and Southampton were mentally and physically draining. Zaha was excellent as was Benteke and Loftus-Cheek. Hopefully it’s a blip and we get back on track next week.

Tuesdays team selection will be interesting
We need to find a replacement for Simpson.
Give Amartey a run out against Man City. See if the Leeds game was a one off.
He was excellent against dirty Leeds.
Simpson has had a good run, but his limitations are being exposed

Agree with him struggling with the basics of being a defender.

Can’t bomb full backs forward and include Maguire without a change of shape.

What went wrong! I think we underestimated Palace due to their position in the league, we seem to be a bit relaxed and they hit us hard and we couldn't cope

Which is fairly stupid when you consider we can't beat the top 6 'big' sides.

The lads need to get smart

Could have sworn we beat Spurs very recently.
