I'm a huge believer in technology being used in sport...but they've made such a monumental **** up of this one it's unreal. The lack of consistent application is absolutely appalling...making this the worst refereed season in history.

We can only hope there are significant changes made next season.

the biggest change needed is the sacking of Mike Riley, this situation all stems from him, he's told refs not to use the screen, he set the "high bar" etc.

He was a terrible ref and now he, the inmate is running the assalum

The same referees who have been making mistakes on the field of play for years are now making the same mistakes in the office where they have time and thousands of pounds worth of technology at their disposal. There's no excuse for it really.

Second in the table after 12 games is bloody impressive.
If you look closer at the current table, the only team we haven’t played in the top 10 is Man City, makes it more impressive.
Our two defeats have been by the odd goal, both of which were dubious/ controversial penalties.
We are on a good run now, have to ensure we continue it against the “lesser” teams

Top-flight referees are paid a basic salary of approximately £70,000 but get match fees of about £1,000, with further payments for being the fourth official or the VAR at Stockley Park.

Premier League officials can earn well into six figures over a year of being a referee, fourth official and VAR over the same match-day weekend.

And on the subject of referee's fitness ...

Hackett was among those who suggested that the recently retired trio of Roger East, Mike Jones and Lee Probert were struggling long before they were let go.

He does, however, believe they should be added to the 22 names — the 17 select group 1 officials plus five from the Championship list — in the VAR pool to give match-day officials more rest between games.

Three of the officials that were involved on Saturday this weekend were also involved in Premier League matches on Sunday, including the fourth official for the Liverpool v Manchester City clash, Mike Dean. He has also been working as a VAR.

“Mike Dean worked as a VAR, a referee and a fourth official two weekends ago but any performance analyst will tell you that mental tiredness is as important as physical fatigue,” Hackett says.

“This is meant to be the best league in the world. Of course someone is going to say yes to another match fee if you ask them if they’re tired!”
