I don't think it's fair to say that Megson was, in effect, hounded out by the fans. At the end of the day, a Prem club came in for him and offered him the chance to manage at the highest level, more money and better players, he had only been at our club for a short time and had no real emotional attachment, he would've been a fool not to take the job.
I have no doubt that you are right about Megson moving to a Premiership club and I would guess any Championship manager would want to do the same.
However, I feel Leicester fans are over negative and Megson proves the point. When we played Forest soon after Megson arrived the Forest fans were chanting against him. I remember Milan being rightly annoyed at the response of some Leicester fans. Instead of doing what you would expect and chanting for our manager they chanted for Martin Allen of all people.
The response of some fans was to say it was because Megson was a boring character. These same fans then complained about Ian Holloway as soon as he arrived because he was not boring enough.
I make no excuses for Martin Allen who I felt was and is an appalling character. I feel that Ian Holloway who was and is a good man should have done better. Nevertheless I believe that it was the resignation of Megson so soon after arriving and the temporary stewardship of Frank Burrows that psychologically prepared the players for relegation.
