Decent performance, Wigan will count themselves unlucky with the deflection, the own goal and the close VAR call but over all we controlled the game and were good value for the win. Benkovic did ok, needs to work on his passing for damn sure. Mendy was surprisingly good again. Wigan created two good chances but other than that, not a lot else.
Benkovic passing was spot on he was pinging the ball 30-40m on either foot, I felt he had a good game from what I could see.

professional win, squad players got another run out and possibly most importantly Barnes got a goal which could lift his confidence and see him kick on again in the league

Call me an old cynic, but yesterday really showed why the magic of the cup is dead in principle because of the riches of the Premier League. Wigan didn’t really look interested and the team selection showed as much. The only real shocks come in games where Premier League teams play the back up and they get turned over - the interview Dean Smith did showed they’re more worried about £200m Premier League income than wining the FA Cup. It’s not unexpected but really sad. FA Cup 3rd round Saturday used to be really special, like non-League Sutton Utd beating Coventry who were top division and holders on a mud bath of a pitch. We just won’t see those days again.

I enjoyed a pretty boring game.

It is a sign of the difference, under Rodgers, that we never looked likely to get any result, other than a win. We looked superior to a lower league opposition which, is something that we haven't always achieved, even in recent years.
I said exactly the same to the bloke I was sitting next to. I can’t remember the last football match I went to where even with us being unimpressive, I was so sure of getting A result.
