Do you not? Really?

Yes. I know what their reasoning would likely be but I don't understand it.

The Thai king was not a good sort. A football club being run by good Thai owners doesn't make their questionable monarch worthy of applause.

The minute's applause was to show unity with our owners and the Thai people in their moment of grief and mourning. It was not to show your appreciation or support for the monarch or any of his achievements, good or bad. Surely anyone with a shred of humanity can put aside their opinions for something like that.

The Thai king was not a good sort.

An easy comment to make from outside.

I'm no expert but the King seemed to operate in a bit of a tight spot for the majority of his reign. Caught between the need to appease the military and rule in a manner that made him popular with the majority of his people, a difficult role to play.

People point towards things like the Thammasat university massacre when painting him In a bad light. He merely sided with the military after the fact, he didn't orchestrate it.

Compared to many rulers in the immediate vicinity to Thailand the bloke was positively level headed and reserved in terms of expression of wealth and heavy handed rule.

From the outside it looks like he guided a country in a volatile environment with quite a steady hand, Thailand always being the more progressive country under his rule in comparison to it's counterparts.

Anyway, non of that was in the front of my mind when I simply offered a respectful clap that was more in the direction of our owners than the Kind himself.

I didn't voice them at the time. I just didn't participate, as is my right.

I'm not really bothered about showing unity with, or respect for, the owners of the football club I support.

Well, I'm just glad that the club appears to have more supporters like me than like you.

I support the team and the club which represents the city of my birth. I will always do so. That does not extend to the owners, whoever they may be. They are simply the latest in a long line of people who wish to make money from the club. Good luck to them too.

But I am not grateful for their ownership. They're supposed to run the club well. It's the minimum expectation. I'm glad that they are doing so but they don't get any congratulations for it from me, any more than I deserve the same for turning up and doing my job every day.

I don't dislike them or anything. I just don't care about them. My support for the club has nothing to do with who owns it. Well, unless we were owned by the likes of a Vincent Tan, in which case I'd be withdrawing my support.

Bit of a difference betweeen "running the club well" and orchestrating the biggest ****ing upset in the history of organized sports.

To each their own I suppose. I'd have probably politely clapped.

I don't believe that they did orchestrate it. They played their part of course but it isn't as though they invested more on players than was expected for a club at our level.

The credit very much goes to the manager, coaches and players for me. The whole reason that our success is so lauded is that is was managed on resources nowhere near that of the expected contenders.

They have provided a stable platform, of that there is no doubt. And I do respect that, but they haven't done so from the goodness of their hearts. Again, running the club well is my minimum expectation of any owners.

Whilst I'd agree that they didn't orchestrate it and our success last year was a complete team effort largely based off the players, management and various physios and coaches etc connected with them - your post suggests that our owners aren't particularly special but IMO they've given plenty of examples that they are pretty generous, £2m donation to a local Children's charity, regular freebies for fans attending both home and away games isn't something most clubs get to enjoy.

Well I certainly think our owners deserve a damn sight more respect than the previous one.

What level were we at when they came in?

Is money spent on individual players the only measure of whether owners have gone above what can be reasonably expected?

I cannot fathom how some posters can't have at least a small amount of respect for our current owners.

When we succeed as a club everyone deserves a share of the plaudits from the grounds men to players to back room staff to the owners. To say we are well run is quite frankly an absurd underachievement.

Our owners are sanctioning spending money well above our previous owners and while I accept this is largely down to our success they could equally be running us on a shoestring as many other clubs are.

I will be very interested to see our balance sheet at the end of this season, I would expect us to turn over between 250 - 500 million pounds, an incredible turn around giving our club a fantastic foothold and platform from which we will continue to flourish.

Our owners are at the very least entitled to our respect.

Surely our owners appointed the CEO, Director of Football etc? They in turn appoint the manager, who in turn appoints his assistants and coaches etc. If you get it wrong at the top, it goes wrong below. Or am I missing something?

The men at the top are only accountable when it goes horribly wrong it seems.

Shipman out.
