I see that but Slimani is mobile and very good in the air. I would also have thought that he would be effective holding up the ball?

I don't see that, with the exception of being good in the air. To me, he's almost comical when he runs. I've no idea what time he can cover 20 metres in but it looks like ages. I guess it depends on your definition of mobile though. He's not reliable, IMO, with his first touch often letting him down. With his size and strength, you would have thought he could hold up the ball well but I haven't seen him reliably do that. Tbh, I see him as a bit of a bull in a china shop, a hefferlump even

He looked improved against Huddersfield but as I said before, I've no idea how to factor in Huddersfield's poor performance. Against a more enthusiastic defence, I don't know how he'd go.

Suffice it to say that I'm still not convinced Slimani is a player for us.

A cracking first touch to set the ball on its way and then outpaced all chasing defenders to said ball, before deftly lobbing the keeper with a fantastically composed chip.

I know what bloo means; there is a clumsiness about Slimani which doesn't make him easy on the eye but yesterday he did manage to produce the goods. Just watching MoTD highlights; perhaps more inpressive than his goal was the way he fought and fought to keep the ball for the third in the face if two or three challenges and then still had the presence of mind to play the ball out wide into space for Gray. It was his best game for us by a long way but I've said that before! Let's hope that this isn't another false dawn. I would definitely play him against Fleetwood to see if he can build some momentum and confidence.

I think 'momentum' is an apt word for Slimani!

Yes, it was a class finish. I wouldn't suggest otherwise. And his performance against Huddersfield was his best yet for us, acknowledged.

I remain unconvinced, that's all. I need to see more such performances. I've seen him as a clumsy ox for too long.
