While that's fair, he doesn't need to be the next Vardy in order to be a decent enough striker. It's a term that gets horribly misused in football, but 'average' will do us just fine

Hmmm, I'd disagree. Vardy has what, this season and maybe one more at best, and relying on Vardy even now is insane given his age. We need more than an average striker, stat.

If course I'd be happy for Daka to become the next Vardy, but he won't.
I'm not saying it definitely will happen, but considering Vardy's late bloom, it might also.

Doesn't really matter - if he can become even half of the player Vardy has been for us, it'll help.

I would say our most critical med to long term position is finding someone who has that leadership profile. Without Vardy and Coady we are woefully bereft of that.

It's worth mentioning that RvN has admitted trying to sign Daka for PSV.

Full quote to save a click

"He’s probably the player that I’ve seen the most of,” van Nistelrooy said. “Also at a younger age, when he was at Salzburg, I was following him already. I was very interested in him when I was PSV manager, to be honest.

I think he’s got great potential. That’s what he showed in Austria, scoring a lot of goals, assisting a lot. It’s something that I saw in him. He’s only going to get better, I think, developing him on a daily basis. He’s got a lot of potential.”

Before everyone gets ahead of themselves and thinks that RvN's arrival had anything to do with this sudden change of fortune, I understand that Tuesday was the first time that boc has managed to get to a game this season. The possibility that his charisma made its way onto the pitch and affected the players is too much to ignore.
Very true

...possibly.

Before everyone gets ahead of themselves, Daka is pretty bloody average and one good goal does not a quality forward make. If course I'd be happy for Daka to become the next Vardy, but he won't. Let's get real for a moment.
Not sure what you’re reading, but all I’m reading is people saying what a great goal it was, which it was.

'Average' position in the EPL is 10-11th place...

At 26 Vardy was struggling to adjust to life in the Championship. Nobody thought Vardy had the potential to become Vardy back then. Like RvN, I always thought Daka has potential.
I guess we will see.

I don't think I've seen anything other than the odd blue moon moment that has given me any hope of him being a decent player for us. Obviously I would love him to kick on and be a revelation but he's got that 'Iheanacho-ness' about him that he just can't seem to shake.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him shipped out this summer, even if he scores a few in the interim.

I will always think that working with Kevin Phillips was the making of Vardy as a top level striker. Before that, he just didn't believe in himself enough.

If Daka doesn't make use of working with a great forward that has belief in him, he never will. It's now or never for his career.

I've said loads of times that there are the basic ingredients there with Daka. His pace, his instincts and his ability to shoot really early are all top level. But he's a mess when it comes to confidence and consistency.

I hope this is the making of him. Cooper (I don’t think) could coach a striker as his set up seemed to be anti-attack minded.

Hopefully RvN with Vardy supporting will be a breath of fresh air for him and a new start.

I (as everyone else) desperately wants him to succeed and become a 15-20 goal-a-season striker.

If anyone can improve him, RvN is probably one of the best options.

This place is rather pleasant at the moment, which **** is going to spoil it? :041::021::026::039::068:

Brighton will spoil it Saturday. Although Fulham currently beating the champions league contenders

In my almost 50 years as a fan we've hardly ever had better than average strikers & often worse than that.

Worthington, Lineker, Smith, Vardy. Since the mid 70s thats it for the better than average brigade. Everyone else has been bog standard or worse. Often much worse. Top strikers are gold dust. We definitely won't be getting another Vardy & even if we did we wouldn't be able to keep him for more than 2 seasons before the bids came in & off he went.
When he finishes we have to either play 2 up front or have midfielders & wingers who can score goals.

Finding a Weller or an Izzet would be more realistic (at least in terms of goal contributions)

We'll have to change the way we play.
