In my almost 50 years as a fan we've hardly ever had better than average strikers & often worse than that.

Worthington, Lineker, Smith, Vardy. Since the mid 70s thats it for the better than average brigade. Everyone else has been bog standard or worse. Often much worse. Top strikers are gold dust. We definitely won't be getting another Vardy & even if we did we wouldn't be able to keep him for more than 2 seasons before the bids came in & off he went.
When he finishes we have to either play 2 up front or have midfielders & wingers who can score goals.

Finding a Weller or an Izzet would be more realistic (at least in terms of goal contributions)

We'll have to change the way we play.
I think Heskey was better than average but I know there'd be a lot of debate around that one.

Depends what we’re averaging.

Average of England internationals? Maybe about right.

Average of Premier League players at the time? He was above that.

Average of all professional players on earth since day one? Galaxies above that.

It’s part of the language. Most football fans use words outside their ordinary meaning. “Average” means “shit”, “GOAT” stands for Greatest of all Time but actually means “competent”, “useless” means “hasn’t scored a hat trick today”, “clodhopping oaf” means “future Premier League-winning captain”, etc
