Biff - Have you not heard that retro is cool?

Durham - I know it's another big step but what will it be actually used for?

Macky - Better coverage for existing networks would be a start. Mobile internet/satnav/downloading is fine in built up areas but move out of the City and speeds and coverage soon become poor.

It will be used for faster transfer of data, isn't that obvious?

Biff - If it makes you feel better to think that, carry on.

Macky - Not necessarily. Speeds vary quite alot just across Leicester so I'd imagine other similar sized places are the same, smaller worse, larger better etc but for example I've got friends in Wigston where I get a poor signal and over in Evington barely get a data signal and these hardly places that would be classed as being 'in the sticks'.

Yeah, I don't doubt what you're saying. The point is though that these companies invest in infrastructure like this on the basis that it will produce a larger and quicker return, rather than focus their investment on existing technologies.

Yeah I know what're saying but I just think its a bit shit that all this new tech is being talked about when some people are being left in the dark so to speak.

3G/HSPDA or whatever it is we have now is bloody good when you can get it but not all that available so seems silly to update just yet.

It's not just me that thinks that. The planned roll out for 4G is supposed to connect the majority of the country at decent speeds eventually, even areas where wired internet is not fast, this will all be (mis)managed by government and the telephone companies will do their usual trick of cutting back in areas where they won't make profits but superfast in cities should lead to bearable speeds in the sticks rather than the current fast in cities and nothing in the sticks.

You can be a cynical as you like, luddites are everywhere.
