Maybe waiting a month and publishing AFTER we have been awarded the 2018 World Cup would have been the best situation for the 'truth & justice' brigade and true patriots / football fans, who would have loved to see the WC back on English soil???

Surely if the story is published after, it puts our bid under scrunity?

I'd love to see yes but I seriously think the knock-on effect of hosting could leave a financial blackhole as clubs and cities take on further debt they can not sustain.

The FA have already done themselves damage with this incident:-

The odd thing is that Warner's comments in this article were completely trumped as the FA moved heaven and earth to get his vote. Played a game in Trindad and set Beckham off to coach an academy. Whored ourselves to a complete crook. We are doing similar this summer by playing a game in Thailand.

Bidding for the World Cup is a complete backhand game of favours and greasing palms.

C) why blame a paper for exposing corruption? surely exposing corruption is a good thing

:102:

I think it's questionable whether these Murdoch press entrapments are exposing any such thing. We've seen the more "sophisticated" British sportsmen (Lawrence Dallaglio for drug dealing and John Higgins for match fixing) suckered in this way - after much huffing and puffing, they were cleared of the serious charge, and fined for bringing their sport into disrepute.

Getting the Tahiti FIFA rep to ask for a kickback to fund a sports complex is hardly a journalistic scoop or the crime of the century IMO - it is as much to the discredit of the UK media as the wretch they snared.

The day Murdoch's lackeys do a similar number on the Chinese, then I might be impressed. All this has done is hole the UK 2018 bid below the waterline, which annoys me even if I don't much care if England hosts the WC or not.

We're all proud to have a country with truly 'free' press, but to lose hosting a World Cup with the jobs & revenue for many thousands of ordinary, hard working people in order to "expose" something that's already well known, is putting extra sales revenue for the news paper, ahead of the nations best interests

We will also be losing all the irritating hysteria which goes alongside the World Cup which makes it almost a relief when an always over-hyped England are eliminated after boring us half to death with mind-dumbing displays.

We will also be losing English fans being ripped off through ridiculous exploitive ticket pricing structures.

I also doubt whether there would be much long term economic benefit for anyone from hosting a World Cup least of all for "ordinary, hard working people"... tho' it would certainly be highly beneficial for ticket sales intermediataries.

The biggest and most important thing we lose, of course, is hordes of massively bejugged, scantily dressed Swedish women.
