Well me and Melton have debating whether Connolly was sh!te and prone to missing sitters. Despite the fact he was top goalscorer in his one full season here and he scored 4 in 2 last season when the top scorers got 9.

Melton reckons he missed sitters left, right and centre, hitting the woodwork and missing from 6 yards. I feel another probelm was after seeing Dickov give good work rate and score the odd goal, they though with Connolly being a similar stature he would be the same.

The Question Is Was David Connolly Prone To 6 Yard Misses Thus Making Him Shite?

I've also checked through previous threads and there are lots of comments about Connolly hitting the woodwork and missing sitters

Connolly hit the woodwork a lot in the season he was with us.

Hazz, you are making Connolly sound better than he was. He played 5 games for us, not 2 as you say.

£3 million was excellent business for a player who had an average campaign the season before.

I wouldn't say Connolly was shit, he was unlucky if anything, he seemed to hit the woodwork more than he scored.

I'd defiantly agree with Melton

He was utter shite! Sure he was nippy, but he wwas too lightweight and got pushed off the ball too easily. Also he really never worked his hardest, he never really gave a shit to Leicester's cause

And yes, he could'nt hit a barn door from 2 yards out. I remeber at one point he had the most shots off-target than any other other player in the division

All in all: SHITE, SHITE, SHITE

You've creasted a problem in your wording Hazza, some people may not think he's shite but did miss sitters. Which way should they vote?

I am not saying hes a world beater. I am saying hes not a shite player and his striking rate is better any other forward we have. He played in a poorer side I feel aswell. It was a good deal with the amount of money. He was not shite.

I hate certain people's narrowed views sometimes. Every one expected a Dickov but Connolly was not him.

My problem with Connolly was his lack of team ethic as I saw it.... did his own thing a lot of the time during the warm up and all that.
He hit the woodwork so many times during that season...

His best work was always outside the area, the problems started for him when he entered the goal mouth. His timing was mostly off that's why missed or hit the woodwork. My thoughts were that he would make a better attacking wide player rather than being in the box.

I thought he was a good player in the team, but for £3 million you surely have to sell him, i was amazed that we got that much TBH i would've been satisfied with 1-2 million. Lets face it if we get 3mil for one of Kisnorbo, McCarthy, Hume, Fryatt or Stearman i wouldn't be to bothered as that is a lot of money, and you could buy replacements, lets not forget RK has spent no money this season.

DC was half decent but £3m was too much to turn down, End of :icon_wink

I think getting 3 Mil for DC was one of the best deals ever done by City! The guy was never the scoring sensation he was made out to be. The real problem with him leaving was the lack of replacment for him upfront, and the panic purchase of Elvis.

Connolly was a decent player at this level but as many have stated the offer from Wigan was too good to turn down. I think the fact he has featured very little shows that the Championship is his true level.

I would not be surprised to see him return to a championship club this season, possibly on a long term loan.

As Fox Fan said the problems stemmed from Levein's inability to adequately replace DC until the January transfer window and by then it was too little too late for him.

So 9 people think that David Connolly didn't miss sitters and 9 people do think he missed sitters. Interesting

Oh yes he did miss sitters (or 1/2 sitters to be more precise ones that the likes of Dickov would have buried) on many occasions so I have got to agree with Melton on this one.
DC scored some great gaols at West Ham and I thought he was good signing for us but he was a dissapointment in the end and the fact we got 3 million for him was a bonus.
To be fair to DC he was at times isolated as the midfield was so bad and he never got the balls played to him that he should have, if the percentage of balls to him were higher then I would say that he would have scored more.

After all that I have decided not to vote as it would be unfair to say he was shite.

Connolly worked hard out the box, made good runs into the channels behind the full-backs and centre halves, but his final ball/shot was often woeful.

Worth a punt when we bought him, but his history suggested he would at best be a one-in-three goalscorer. £3m was way too much to turn down for a decidely average player (although shuch was the state of the team at the time he was one of our better ones!)
