Williams was one of our better players IMO. Unlucky with the free kick that was tipped onto the bar, and the one that Stearman just couldn't reach. Him and Fryatt where about the only ones to come out with any real credit for me...

can't wait to get Kisnorbo back in there... the defense was woeful must of the game and I didn't rate Kenton at all.. worst performance of the day belongs to Stearman though.. what a heap of crap that was..

SLOTW, what is it exactly that you don't like about Williams?
He has yet show me he has a passion for the game in a city shirt, okay he may at times pass a sublime ball and have a shot on goal but most of the time his passing is woeful and he stands off the opposition too much instead of tackling and fighting for the ball.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt and if he improves this season I will be the first to sing his praises but I feel that Hughes is the more talented although he needs to beef up a bit.

I'm afraid I'd have to disagree with that.. the only critiscism I'd have of Williams at the moment is that sometimes he is a little too casual on the ball but I guess that's just his style of play. Better choice than Hughes at the moment IMO.

Anyway, at the rate we are going he will probably be snapped up come the end of the season.. =/

trying to forget about the game..eric and stearman had shockers only fryatt seemed to be trying and he seemed to give up..:icon_roll

We played our best football for 5 minutes after the introduction of O'Grady and Hammond....

Henderson - 6 - Didn't do anything wrong. No blame for the goals and a good save in the second half. Most impressive thing was that he didn't try to do any of his silly punches and he caught a couple of balls.
Stearman - 3 - The worst performance in his first team career.
McCarthy - 5 - Not at his best. Seemed to lack fitness.
Kenton - 5 - Did ok but did not look secure. Probably be better as a left back with speed of recovery.
Johhanson - 4 - At fault for the first goal. Always looked shaky with winger running at him. Worries me.
Maybury - 5 - Played like attacking full back but rarely got forward on the right to cause any damage. In midfield doesn't seeem to give us any creativity to cause problems for the opposition.
Johnson - 7 - Looked decent in the first half, tended to look for long balls rather than pass it in the second. Gave us a bit fight in the middle of the park.
Williams - 6 - Good set pieces. Some nice touches but a lot of failed passes. Felt that he became a bit anonymous when it became a bit physical but then that's not new.
Tiatto - 5 - Did ok First half, run out of steam in the second and with that the fouls kept on coming. Does not offer us anything positive going forward.
Hume - 4 - Runabout a lot with little effect. Hasn't clicked into form yet.
Fryatt - 7 - Worked hard to try to achieve something positive. Service to him, especially in the second half was poor. Just edged the MOTM for me.
O'Grady - 4 - Did ok, but like Hume ineffective. But did show some physical power.
Hammond - 4 - Tried hard to get into the game but lacked physicality against thier big defenders.
Hughes - 4 - Try as he could he found it difficult to get the ball and when he did it was back in his own half.

Poor performance individually and as a team. We had plenty of possession but not the ability to break them down. Midfield looked very negative with both Maybury & Tiatto in it. It doesn't allow either Williams or Johnson to play the ball wide and it ws very tight in the middle to weave anything through. Going to forget about this and be positive about Tuesday's game.
Still think we are better team than we showed today.

I am sorry I don't get all this Matt Fryatt arse licking, first half I thought he did ok, nothing spectacular but did appear to be making things happen, 2nd half he was anonymous and allowed his head to drop and he disappeared, was no better than anybody else IMO.

I agree with Boc he looked a couple of yards off the pace.

It looked as though he gave up and just appeared to lose all interest

Henderson - 5 Caught it once or twice
Stearman - 3 Is he getting too "big-time??" Has he trained much??
Kenton - 6 Got in front of his man a few times, tried coming out with the ball
McCarthy - 5 So-so
Johannsen - 4 Limited at LB, no pace. Gets away with it sometimes not today
Maybury - 3 Another who looked frighteningly unfit...
Williams - 5 Usual display
Johnson - 5 Not the worst, but thats about it.
Tiatto - 4 Clearly another unfit, didn't even whack anyone!
Hume - 3 Pre-season training should have started earlier for him too.
Fryatt - 5 Off the pace, but a slight threat anyhow.

Hughes - 5 As per Williams
Hammond - 5 As per Hughes
O'Grady - 5 At least was a presence, caused more prob's than anyone else.

Bob as an insider what are your views on yesterdays performance and the preperation that has been put in over the pre season ???

To me and many others the team looked unfit, unmotivated and under prepared.

PFKA - your points on another, similar thread are unnervingly accurate with regard to the pre-season. I'm not getting on the back of RK - within the constraints that he must work he has an unenviable, almost thankless task - but it was evident to all that a lot of the players just weren't fit.

To me, and I'm sure all others, that is totally unacceptable. That is down to management - as was the preparation. However, the players must take considerable blame as surely their own self-pride should generate a more gritty, motivated and determined effort from them. It was an opportunity for them to lay down an early season marker to the whole football community as to their intentions/aspirations for the long season ahead.

That said, Tuesday night can't come quick enough - for me at least: just hope some of them are waking up this morning feeling the same.

That is the only positive that we have to cling on to, the fact that the next match is very soon and we can turn it all around again very quickly. If we put in the same performance however, I'm afraid that may set the benchmark for the whole season and may determine the reaction from a section of the fans towards Rob Kelly and the playing squad

Great post Bob, confirms what I feared, if there is not a rapid rethink as to our fitness levels then as with the Peter Taylor relegation season we will be doomed. Yesterday proved that, you can have a talented squad but if you are not fit enough to compete then you have no chance. Your honesty Bob has made me realign my expectations even further, I honestly believe that purely down to poor fitness and preperation we will have another relegation battle on our hands.

Problem is though Melts, if the side is unfit and under prepared then the likelihhod of a quick turnaround is almost zero, especially when we are facing a side like Burnley who are renowned for their fitness and work ethic.
