after reading pearson's comments and the match review, seemed as we played well, we created alot of chances, which is very important, unlucky Howard, hit the crossbar and missed a penalty,

they seem to be gelling which is important and i think they really are going to do well in this league, another 1-2 players needed to be added, Mattock is back from England duty .

Okay chaps i went last night and it wasn't overly impressive. But we shouldn't panic as its early days. I'll give you a quick run down on my post match thoughts.

Centre halves - Both Worley and Morrisson looked tidy but quite undecided under high balls and crosses. They look a bit green and not quite ready to be a first choice yet.

Fullbacks - J chambers is just tidy and solid nothing much to sing about. I had no idea who played left back.

Centre Mids - Bit disappointed with Oakley and Weso's performance. They seemed to be occupying they same portion of the pitch and laying really deep. Oakley needs to stamp his authority more on a game and let Weso do the donkey work. One of them needs to get further forward.
Kish came on in the second half and looked very solid, but added nothing to the creativity.

Wingers - Gradel looks very useful and although a bit inexperienced at times (release the ball earlier) i think he can turn in to a real handful this season. Good feet and pace. Lloyd Dyer was poor in my opinion and looks a bit light weight to me. He has a funny physique and just generally failed to impose himself.
I think the Adams lad came on later in the game but didn't do much to be honest.

Strikers - Howard was pretty poor but i didn't think he got great service. He hit the crossbar from the one decent cross, but should have buried it really. Not much link up with DJ.
DJ looked busy and a handful for their defence but missed two guilt edged chances. One 1 on 1 and then a sitter 4 yards out (shameful) from a Gradel cross. These two have the attributes to trouble defences but need to link up a lot better than last night.
Matty Fryatt and some other lad came on late in the game but didn't do much to be honest.

Logan looked dodgy to me especially on crosses.

All in all not worse but much more improvement required. Think we have a good 11 in the squad but would worry if we hit injuries, as the back up players aren't great.

Still it should be a bit of excitement around next April re. the play offs rather than relegation this time.

Pre season friendly results mean next to nothing. When MON was here I seem to remember us being pretty useless in friendly matches. Its just a training exercises at the minute and getting used to new teammates and formations etc. We shouldn't read anything into results. Anyhow, I would expect the addition of Clemence, Tunchev, N'gotty, Henderson and Kisnorbo to have a positive impact.

Too many of their clearances fell in front of their midfield.

Particularly with two wingers operating wide, these two were operating far too close together. It gave the middle of the field to Luton.

Dyer was dire. Too many of Gradel's crosses came to the very poor DJ, when Howard should have been in that position. Most people didn't notice that Adams had come on for about 10 minutes when he suddenly had a bit of a run down the right.

Logan looked dodgy to me especially on crosses.

We have 11 or more players who should be able to put in more of a performance than they did last night - but then the same has applied for at least a couple of seasons.

Midfield and attack still seem under-par from the reviews, though Gradel seems to be ready to improve things. As far as the midfield are concerned if neither Oakley or Weso improve it may be time to give King a chance. Weso may be too similar to Oakley as was stated in one of the reviews... and he may be one of those players who never really comes back as the same player he was from a bad injury (2 breaks in his case).

Looks like DJ looked dangerous but missed 2 gilt edged chances, which I thought was the preserve of Matty Fryatt so rather concerned about that. Looks like Dyer is dire, but early days, let's see. As for the defense looks like the team really need the Bulgarian to be good because the 2 kids at the back are too raw, too green and too inexperienced. One of them needs a decent, experienced centre back to be beside them. N'Gotty from reviews at the Hinckley match doesn't seem to be that man anymore.

Just my initial reactions to those two reviews...

really poor game, played hoofball, but the distribution was awful. we had a handful of chances but the standard of shooting was crap.

these games shouldn't be a judge of the season to come though....thank feck

And Logan gave a bloody awful impersonation of a goalie in the first half at Hinckley - shame, because in his early days I thought he had potential. He has no future with us I reckon.
