Mahrez

There's more to working hard than just jogging around, though I can't recall people saying he was lazy on Friday night but please change the narrative to suit the persecution complex you have for this

We have a genius of a player who is perhaps a maverick and will appear to 'float' in and out of games.

Players of his ilk are rarely present at Leicester and a half-arsed Mahrez is double of any other winger we have in terms of setting up goals and indeed scoring them.

Because the generally misused quote is that Mahrez is lazy, doesn't track back or put in a shift therefore leaving his teammates exposed.

But he quoted people who said he was rubbish. Forget the "generally misused quote".

Surely this is some mistake? An article that says that Mahrez covered more ground than any of our players (N'Didi aside) on Friday? But, but, but he's a lazy feckwit isn't he?

I can't remember anyone saying he didn't run around a lot, in this thread or the post match thread. I certainly didn't

Not quite sure why you think that stat means he played well. He didn't

Iain Hume ran around for ever, but was feckin' hopeless at times

I thought he worked his knackers off.

Contrary to some fans though, I don't use that to measure a player. In fact it really gets on my tits when fans criticize players like Mahrez re: work rate.

I'm a massive fan of Mahrez. I ****ing love the bloke, but I thought he struggled to put his mark on the game on Friday.

Mahrez wants to move to a bigger club than us. I understand anyone being sad or disappointed about this.

However, the constant criticism of him following any appearance, whether he's good or average. whether he's perceived to 'try' or not, whether he runs about or not, whether he doesn't track back enough or not, whether he's too greedy in possession or not, because he doesn't score a 'worldy' every game, is not the way to handle it.

Mahrez is a brilliant player. He was less brilliant last season than the one before but he's still brilliant. He did brilliant things against Arsenal that none of his team mates (or the likes of Gray) are capable of. Yet his performance was (as usual) highlighted and criticised. This criticism is completely without foundation or rationality. The stats show that he was our second most effective player on the night after Vardy. He worked as hard as anyone and he was creative.

You may just as well have criticised that useless lazy lump Vardy for only scoring goals. Or say that Vardy's heart is clearly not in it because he didn't stop Giroud's header.

Be angry with Mahrez's agent touting him around Europe like a cheap TV. Be upset that we're likely seeing the final days of a great player in a City shirt. But don't lower yourselves to inventing reasons to dislike him or lessen his brilliance.

I would like Mahrez to stay. But over the years I also wanted Gordon Banks, Derek Dougan, Allan Clarke, Peter Shilton, Gary Lineker, Emile Heskey, N'golo Kante, etc., to stay. Over the decades, LCFC and individual players have shown a supreme indifference to my wishes. I think its going to be the same story again.

What stats?

A game of football cannot be defined with stats, it's not possible to paint an actual picture of a fluid event like football using stats compiled by who?

Arsenal won 4-3. There you go.
