Mandaric bid: The fans always come first to me
In an exclusive interview, chief soccer writer Bill Anderson talks to milan mandaric about his hopes, the fans and why he chose city The Leicester City board under the leadership of chairman Andrew Taylor now find a £25million ball in their court.
Like everyone else in the City camp, many feel they know Milan Mandaric by reputation only. But now the man himself is putting his reputation, his personality, his money and his love of football on the line with his takeover bid.
He worked his magic at Portsmouth and elsewhere, though not everywhere as there have been a few stumbles too.
But, in general, the hugely-successful millionaire does not get it wrong very often - and City are now having to consider if he is the long-awaited man to get it right finally.
The situation looks good news for the rank and file - and they are important in Mandaric's scheme of things at all of his clubs.
So what would he say to the Blue Army about his main ambition in making the move?
Mandaric told me: "Bill, let's establish one thing. They are some answers I am sure you realise I will not be able to go through in detail.
"It is a very early situation and I do have a great respect for the people on the other side who are reviewing my offer and please understand I would not like to go into any kind of detail.
"But when you talk about supporters, they are the most important segment of a football club as far as I am concerned.
"And firstly what I would do, I must tell you this, is get my friend Alan Birchenall (his ex-player at San Jose Earthquakes) to arrange a meeting with as many representatives and supporters as possible, stand in front of them, tell them who I am and why I am there, what I am going to do and try to establish a healthy and honest straightforward relationship which will take us through because I am not going to be able to deliver on my own.
"It is all us working together to make it happen. That is what I would tell them."
As soon as Mandaric voiced his intention to leave Pompey, having sold it to a new owner, Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich were among Championship clubs also linked to him so why did he opt for City?
He said: "It is a good question and, as you know during my time at Portsmouth, one of the reasons I stayed there was the rapport with the supporters and I knew Leicester supporters were very similar, hard-working-class, very passionate people.
"They love their club, love their football and have a desire to be back where they belong. That was very important to me."
With a new regime comes uncertainty, nothing new to City in recent years, and the man in possession of the manager's chair, Robert Kelly, has been very successful so far.
Mandaric went through seven team bosses at Fratton Park, so what would his feelings be on that?
He answered frankly: "Bill, I honestly think it is too early to talk about management and organisation.
"Anything like that would be very unfair to everybody concerned. I will tell you one thing. I don't have any other way of doing things than to stick with people who are successful.
"I do anything I can to get everything out of them and give them my support. And, from what my knowledge is, he (Kelly) is doing a good job. Whatever he has got, he is getting the best out of it and no matter what might happen with me I respect that and think he deserves the credit for that."
Kelly has worked wonders with no money so the immediate issue for any new owner is money for new players. The speculation sets the offer at around £25million. So how much would be for new players?
Mandaric said: "Again Bill, please understand that I never like to talk about numbers and even now it is very premature that I talk about that.
"To be honest, everyone knows my aim from my statement what I am trying to do.
"I have been in many challenging situations whether it has been with a corporation or with a football club and what it needs is experience, enthusiasm and financial support.
"And, on financial support, you are forced to look at bringing in new players, like I did at Portsmouth. There is no secret about that. Of course, I would not go to Leicester if I could not make a difference."
Mandaric has been involved with buying many clubs and, of course, selling them on. That might cause some misgivings about his long-term aspirations.
But he said: "The same question was asked by someone at Portsmouth when I went there. I said: 'Let me tell you something, I am not going to tell you how long I am going to stay but I will tell you one thing, the one day I leave, the club will be a far better one than the club I took over, okay?'"

They should get back what the club is worth - no more, no less. If the value of the club has increased in their stewardship, they should gain from the fact - if the value of the club has gone down, they should suffer the loss.
It is funny how they're friends now and yet Birch always used to tell it like they hated eachother...
Questions answered?
Well, after reading those 6 articles on the Merc website, I'm convinced. MM is the Messiah. He will save us all. Bow down.
Either that or he's a lying cheating spin-doctor conman who is using the press to whip the fans into a frenzy and get them to put pressure on the Board to make a hasty decision that is not in the best interests of the club
Hard to say at this stage.....
I really, really wish that we could find out who the other 3 parties are. Would definetely be interesting. And then people could hopefully stop thinking it's Mandaric or bust.
Can't see us finding out who they are until they make an official bid though, and maybe not even then.
You heard it from me, the east midlands company is bardon aggregates, which incidentally are heavily involved at welford road (bradstone)
The other two are parties are bluffs to make milan and co up their bids.
In the words of Barry Davies - interesting, very interesting.
Bardon Aggregates? Is this a cash injection?
