According to his twitter feed, he wasn't even getting paid when at Barnet. Said he was offered a good enough paydeal by Notts County to help pay towards one of his kids Uni fees.

Fair enough.

I know contracts aren't worth feck all nowadays, but if you don't even have one, then no one can whinge if you get a better offer elsewhere and go.

Most managers are sacked for losing matches - it is rare for one to be sacked for non-football reasons - Tommy Docherty, George Graham are the only ones that spring to mind. Is Martin Allen unique in being sacked twice for non-football reasons?

You would think that before appointing him Notts County would ring Milan Mandaric and Cheltenham and it would make them turn to a different kind of character. Leadership requires many qualities but the most important in football management (as in any other field) is good judgement. In his role as manager on the field or off the field Martin Allen has shown nothing but bad judgement.

What about at Brentford or MK Dons?

Indeed, and to be honest, a lot of people looking at the full list of Mandaric's appointments at Pompey, here and Wednesday might reasonable conclude that he knows nothing and isn't worth consulting.

If a manager was sacked for non-footballing reasons you would expect potential new employers to ask why.

The people who own clubs don't care where a manager has been and (more often than not) are equally as clueless as their appointees. Just as most managers don't care about players previous misdemeanours - they all just care about success...at any cost.

The corpse of football is rancid.

Don't expect a chairman who has sacked a manager to stand in the way of the ex-manager being appointed somewhere else, usually the pay-off will be reduced if the ex-manager gets a new position before the contract he is being compensated for would have finished.

And for any response to be wrapped up in phrases such as 'fresh start', 'new direction', 'bring in new faces', etc.

It's my understanding that references have to be fair, and any point (such as 'he took a dump in my car', 'he shagged the captain's missus', 'he punched a player so hard he had a heart attack' or any other daft rumours flung about) which couldn't be proven in a court of law if need be are best not mentioned if the referee doesn't want a libel/slander case.

Both sides have an interest in moving on, so neither will want to bring up the past. Let's face it, the non-footballing reason is far more likely to be unhappiness with the donkeys brought in or the way they're being trained rather than something more outlandish.

They'd say just he runs off every time someone says to him 'fancy joining us, we have this transfer budget and you can sign as many amateur Dutch midfielders, overrated Jamaican strikers and half-arsed Danish goalies as you like.'
Harsh.

According to a lad I know who plays for County on their last away game Allen made the coach stop in the middle of nowhere herded them into a field told the physio and a coach they were goalposts and had a game of headers and volleys for half an hour :102::icon_lol:

Heard this on the BBC the other day. The man is still a lunatic.

Did it ever get fully sorted out what he actually did to get sacked here?
Confidentiality clause says the reasons will never be known. There were most likely a number of factors, but I'm almost certain none of them was anything to do with taking cash backhanders in relation to several otherwise inexplicable transfers in his first few weeks at the club.

Definitely not.
