I think for a time they did a late edition of the main paper, with a wraparound single pink sheet with sports results and reports. The original Sports Mercury was all sport.
They stopped the original Sports Mercury and did a free Sunday paper instead. Newsagents didn't like that because it affected sales of other papers. So that didn't last long. Then they did the Sporting Blue on Saturday mornings.


Edit: Some research suggests that the Sports Mercury was resurrected (don't know when), but they stopped publishing it again in 2007. I'm amazed it lasted until that recently.

Sadly I remember the 'Buff' called that because it was buff coloured. Always had the first reports of the City match, even though I had watched the game at Filbert Street. It came into its own for away matches, no internet back then or mobile phones so the journalists must have used landlines to get their reports in. if there was any television coverage grainy black and white film, all strips a different shade of grey, so scrambles in the goalmouth were such fun, no one knew who had kicked who or what. they were the days!!

The strange thing is we mostly post in the same vein as we did then? The decades have changed nothing.

In Rugby we had the 'Buff' and the 'Pink'. The former from the Mercury and the latter from the Coventry Evening Telegraph.

Same here I was also on ForFoxSake - but nowadays I can barely remember my own name - let alone pen names and user names from years ago - anyway I'm confident it would have been something really witty. Did I ever tell you I used to be on ForFoxSake?
