We need somebody new because they just passed straight through, and right around, those two duffers last night.

Dreadful

He played like a duffer and a cnut, and was dreadful - so did his more experienced partner alongside him. What do you want me to say :102:

"Weso was really great last night and I thought the midfield was truly outstanding, despite being completely overrun for seventy solid minutes by a very average looking side"

My point was made to your original post. They weren't great but that after 1 bad game, and after playing well for the majority of the season, its harsh to absolutely slate players and demand that new ones are brought in.

Neil Danns (Birmingham)
Wes Houlihan (Blackpool)
James Brown (Hartlepool)

Any one of those three in Jan would be good

In my opinion (and it's all internet waffle opinions isn't it?) that central midfield pairing was simply not up to the task last night, and I have not seen enough to suggest that they can possibly see us through this season, or indeed any other - notwithstanding the fact that neither of them can stay fit for more than four or five games in a row

Right now the midfield is STILL our main weakness, and shall continue to cost us points, as indeed it has done all this season

Agreed.

But my argument would be that Weso & Clemence have looked half decent when they have been fit and are just as good as the names bandied around as replacements.

King is okay as a sub/gradually getting games, but I believe Weso is as good a prospect as we have and Clemence (when fit - not convinced he's 100% at the moment) is as good as you get in this Division.

I'd argue that if we had better wingers it'd be a lot easier. Personally I thought Hayes looked crap for the most part with a couple of good things thrown in, and Newton should be sent to pasture cause he is all the things you use to describe Weso.

Agreed that midfield is our main weakness.

But, IMO it is not the fault of SC and JW, it is the fault of the other two whoever they may be from game to game.

Everyone is allowed poor games, which fair enough JW did last night, but I think both would flourish with 2 quality wide midfielders to play alongside.

Tend to agree and I think maybe we are expecting a little too much of weso too soon. He is still very young and has missed most of his career so far through injury.

Clemo is a great player to have in the team and showed it last night that when we had a decent right winger. i.e. hume we killed them and unfortunately failed to capatalise. Clemo is not 100% fit and weso needs more time.

Which is precisely why we need one, possibly two, new midfield players bringing in

more than two i think, have 4 or more new strikers. chuck out the cripples and get a consistant starting 11

Going on last nights showing our midfield is embarassing.

1 - under hit passes time and time again (low confidence?)
2 - not enough passes played on the ground
3 - always hesitant on the ball ie. hardly any one touch passing always needing numerous touches and to look around before passing resulted in players easily been closed down by cardiff.

clemence was poor I did watch him, he was very hesitant kept needing lots of touches before releasing the ball. newton I felt did ok as did Sheehan, however both our 2 central midfielders were poor as well as stearman and mattock. When Ian made the 3 subs there was a clear obvious improvement and for the first time in the game we had some sustained pressure.

So in my opinion our central midfielder pair either need lots of training in one touch passing or we need some new central midfielder particurly someone who can do forward passing, fryatt and hume I felt had very poor service.

No, no, they are great

You've got it all wrong :018:

I have to say I though Wesolowski was poor and Clemence poorer. They were the main reason we struggled so badly in the first half. The only reason we got any joy second half was due to us bypassing them

We have needed a new midfielf for 5 years and every year have managed to **** up the process of constructing a good one.

Anyone who thinks that Weso and Clem are going to cut open defences and win you promotion are deluded.

The SIMPLE answer is to actually create some much needed and long awaited balance in the middle. We have two decent anchor type players in Clemence and Weso, however playing the two together (as proven last night) offers very little creativity. We need to pair one of these ball winners with a more attack minded counterpart.

Come on guys we are a superb example of how an attacking minded player and a defensive one gets the best results. The fact is we have not created anything like the success we had with it, when we had Izzet and Lennon.

Find the right man and away we go. Well when we stop playing Brentford standard players such as Newton in the side anyway.

I don't think anyone has said they played well last night.

And I've never said we shouldn't bring in centre midfielders to improve the depth available, but none of the names people have mentioned are better than what we have.

There is no point bringing in someone thats no better because it will just stop the development of Weso and King.

Like Holloway says, there are enough players here, the last thing we need to do is bring in more average players to add to those we already have.

I would also agree that a creative player alongside either of those would help us, especially at home, but unfortunately every team in this division is looking for one and there's not many that are good or would come.

I think it's gonna need to be another reasonably busy transfer window before the team is sorted out properly. I think we have to get rid of quite a few players as the squad is far far too big, which i imagine will happen once Ollie has had a look at them all.

As for creative midfielders there must be a few floating around either in the league below or younger/fringe players at Premiership clubs who would come to us, even if it is on loan its worth a go. This is where i think Holloway will really help us, since he seems the sort of bloke that players would want to play for.

It would also help if our strikeforce wasn't made of glass. I still think we need a quality striker before we can really challenge, our strikers at present don't really score, all the goals come from defenders.

Id rid ourselves of-

Nielson
Logan

Maybury
Kishishev
Cort
Newton
Hellings
Hammond
De Vries
Levi Porter
Douglas

Thats a huge pile of steaming shit as far as i can see. Could pave way for less but far stronger players.

No arguments with any of that.
