Next Manager

Reckon Moyes had a look at our squad and thought better of it.
Both him and Potter probably thought it’s not worth the risk to my future job opportunities. Especially with Potter sitting on a tidy monthly compensation figure.

It’s a risk for RVN, but if it goes wrong it will be short and sweet and he can blame the squad and being a “big name” will get another chance.

I don't know whether RVN will be brilliant, or awful: I just hope that Top/Rudkin have been honest with him. It is obvious now that both Rodgers and Maresca were lead to believe that more funds were available than were really in situ. It will be bad news if our new manager thinks he's going to sign a new set of players in January and is told on 31st December that the kitty is empty.

So some people are already saying they'll target the board if this goes wrong... I still think they've made the right decision to change, no matter what. But the question if this goes wrong will be could they not find somewhere else to save to please PSR rather than on a crucial appointment?
It just shows how important it is to have good, competent people running the club at all times.

The root cause of today's issues was a failure to sack a manager that had clearly given up and was getting us relegated. We left that so late, that we got turned down by Jesse Marsch, and ended up sealing our own fate by appointing Dean Smith.

Enzo did a great job, but could see the mess behind the scenes and left for a job that in fairness, every manager we've had since the 90s would have left for (except Claudio).

We then can't recruit a new manager because the mess of Rodgers and the PSR rules are still hanging over us, so we have to go for Cooper, who according to the reports, the club always knew was the wrong fit.

Now it's clear Cooper was taking us down, they've decided to make a change again, but have again been rejected by the types of managers that would certainly keep us up (Moyes). So we roll the dice again.

All of which is to say, when I was watching Villa vs Juventus last night, I did think that had we of sacked Rodgers when we should have, Emery was a very achievable appointment and we would almost certainly be in a miles better position than we are today.

“Welcome Ruud! After avoiding relegation in your first season with us please feel free to use us as a career steppingstone to manage Man Utd when they inevitably sack their latest manager.”

I checked the ‘Predictions’ thread from early season - which made for pretty grim reading (though there was the possible threat of points reduction hanging over us at the time?)

12/25 predicted relegation and 10 of those thought SC would be gone by end of season (Pork Pie Fox predicted gone by Xmas).

Of the 13/25 who predicted PL survival, 12 predicted SC would still be hanging on at the end (including me)

Now that we have a new manager in place with about two thirds of the season remaining – has that changed how you see our final table position – for better or worse?

I will point out that my prediction on Cooper being out by Xmas wasn’t solely a prediction on his ability, but a combination of things suggesting we’d be a bit shit.

I love the 'New Manager Bounce'. If we can dump RvN after a month or so, and get someone else, we can keep getting The Bounce' regularly through the season.

How much will it cost?
Pahhhh.

BR had no shortage of funds made available to him, his downfall was bringing in mediocrity.

I was thinking that he would be the best player in his prime to manage us by quite a long way. Have I missed anyone obvious or debatably close?

RVN was a hell of striker, as much as I disliked him at the time.

European Cups:

Martin O’Neill 2
Paulo Sousa 2
Ruud van Nistelrooy 0

Time will tell if Starmer and co. were right about this.
wtf have that daft sod and Reeves got to do with any of this?

If that's the criteria let's go get Roonil Wazlib

Paul Merson:

He had three games, he beat Leicester twice so it’s not a bad audition is it? They probably thought he was the one that beat them and not Man United.

“It will be interesting, let’s be honest, if he wasn’t at Man Utd for those few games, he stayed on and did well, he wouldn’t be getting this job so hopefully he takes advantage of it.

“Good luck to him, he was a top, top player and hopefully he can turn Leicester around. Do I think Leicester can get turned around? No, I don’t think they can, I think they will be relegated, I have watched them too many times this season and I don’t see them staying up.”

All well and good Paul, but.. he had four games in charge of United.. oh and he had a job managing another team before that.
