He'll score the winner in their next match and the same peole will be singing his praises.

The fickleness of some football fans does make me chuckle.

I do wonder now whether Maynard will be rethinking his stance on staying at Ashton Gate after they were thoroughly outclassed by a solid but unspectacular Ipswich side. By all accounts Bristol City looked more like relegation candidates than dark horses for promotion and one has to think that Maynard's ambitions must stretch further than that with the kind of clubs who have been linked with him, including our own.

The next few weeks will be interesting indeed, though I expect nothing to happen until after we play Bristol City on the 16th. Their fans are already becoming restless so I daresay that Maynard scoring against them this month will lead to pitchforks and burning torches outside Sexstone's office.

I've got genuine reason to believe that Maynard has not the slightest wish to stay at Bristol City. He wants out and it is the club who are keeping him there. I don't think it's likely that he'll put himself out for them in forthcoming games, with the intent of forcing their hand. If that doesn't work and he's still down there after 10 games or so, he'll start making the effort so as to ensure he's got a prominent place in the shop window by the end of the season. The consolation of having waited will for him be a greater signing on fee - Bristol City will get sweet **** all and it is they who should be urgently rethinking their stance.

I still think he is the likeliest new arrival of the ones that have been speculated on.

It certainly fits in with what the bcfc fans are saying on there regarding player ratings for the Ipswich game. Near everyone saying Maynard looked lazy and disinterested.

A very good point on his intentions, the press releases coming out of Ashton Gate have been ambiguous to say the very least and this includes Maynard himself. I firmly believe he has wanted out of Bristol City since the end of last season but has been hitherto holding out for a Premiership club coming in for him rather than a club in the same division, with an offer not forthcoming he just wants out to whoever offers enough cash. It looks likely that that 'whoever' will be us but he needs to put in a transfer request before anything happens quickly as his chairman seems rather stubborn.

The player has no need to put in a transfer request; the club know he wants out and there is no advantage for him of putting in a formal request. The stubbornness of the chairman is the problem; he and his club are losing out because of it.

In an ordinary situation there would be no need, but it's precisely this stubbornness that is necessitating a transfer request.

Of course what could is equally feasible is that Maynard continues to stall on signing a new contract and we weigh in with a cheeky offer on deadline day that Bristol City have little choice but to accept if they don't want to lose him on a free.

A minor point, but the player normally gets a percentage of the transfer fee so it would be in his interest to ensure he is sold before his contract expires. Whether he would forego this by putting in a transfer request is perhaps in the fine print.

But if he waits until his contract expires, there won't be a transfer fee - and the employing club will be able to afford to pay him a bigger signing-on fee.

But in a year, once he's inevitably taken you up, he could look forward to another large sweetener when you sell him on to the Jacks. ;)
