citing differring views on the way the club is moving, with the Allenby situation as the last straw.

feels it was forced upon him by the club, but there has been no fall out with Tim Boon.

Fairly scathing of the club, as are the comments on the Mercury site. Notice nothing on the official site yet.

To be honest I think the time was probably right for New to be given the gloves, and he's proved it with the bat. But sounds like Nico has been treated harshly considering he was club captain.

he was interviewed on radio Leicester to-night and you could tell he was dissappointed with the way things have turned out, but did say he was determined to fight his way back into the side.

I had assumed that he would be given his pass out to join the other old boys on the coaching staff. Doesn't look that way now - I don't know where he is coming from in thinking he is going to 'fight his way back into the side' and to be honest, he has left it too late to move on to another county.

His performances with both gloves and the bat slipped from the beginning of this season but he has had a fine career with that flourish a couple of years ago that brought him England recognition and a spin off to some decent money.

I like New in the side, I admit. Its a shame that a legend like Nixon is being treated like this though. I would think he still has a lot to offer. This must be the 4th or 5th captain in a row that we've treated like this. Robinson, Snape and DeFreitas had similarly strange endings.

I'd like to see us appoint a captain for the long term. It seems like being Leics captain at the moment is a 6 month job, with players being forced out of their club when they hit a rough patch.

It might have something to do with the age group of the players concerned.

I wonder what odds I could get on Darren maddy for captain next season?
