I don't think there's any problem posting links to the os. if those links are for paid content they should have a system in place to stop people getting it without paying - it's easy enough to do.

But i don't think things people have copied from the os and uploaded somewhere else should be linked to.
If there's a problem with the protection on some of the ptv files that's something t ey should sort out, but they shouldn't be blaming other people for the failings in their system.

All the oints you make are common sense, but the law doesn't use common sense. The problem i had was people posting pictures of the ships, crew ect from Star Trek which had been taken from the official site.

Links to the official site, are a different ball game, but the law usually protects the copyright owner. if you forget to lock your door, is it okay for me to go in and take what i like, or is it still stealing?

I Would check if i were you. i know someone through the internet who is still paying off substantial court costs after he advertised a torrent for the Star Trek movies on a site. this was in the US, but i would be sure if i were you!

If that was true there would be no forums online, people would be too scared of getting sued.
if someone phoned you with a link to illegal stuff you wouldn't expect BT to get the blame.
if someone posted it you wouldn't blame the Royal Mail.
The person posting is the one responsible for what they post.
If a copyright holder asks me to remove a link I will, but I can't be held responsible for what other people post, unless I've failed to move it after being asked.

the problem with the ptv video links is that there's no protection on them. How is someone supposed to know that the link is to something that should be paid for?

I have deleted threads occasionally when I've seen people breaking the rules - including one of yours.

I can't check everything and I expect moderators to use their judgement when they see something dodgy. But at the end of the day he posts are the resposibility of the person who makes the post, and if I'm required by law to pass on the IP address that was used for a particular post I'll do it. So people should use common sene before posting.
