You've gotta like our situation for possible promotion atm? The only pressure in the squad should be self-pressure in knowing we/they can do it. We have nothing to lose compared to other teams in the division. Yes, money as been spent but it's loans and come end of May, our wage bill returns to normal.

Relegation is not going to happen due to our home form, Sven's showing every indication that he'll be next season regardless and when funcitioning right we have one of the best footballing teams City have possessed in donkeys. So even if we don't get there, I can see us scoring tons and watching us top, notch football pissing past the likes of Cov and Pompey at Walkers.

Only downside in failure to reach the play-offs means no Yak staying for example.

C'mon Sven and the boys, I want May ruined by play-offs!!

Optimistic of Leicester

i genuinely believe we will go up this year.
despite the worst start EVER!!

I admire your optimism Hazz, and I too would love my Bank holiday dive trip to be disrupted by a day out at Wembley. However, I think it may be a tall order.

A quick glance at the table sees us 6 points adrift of the last playoff spot. I think in reality that is probably 9 or 10 given our poor goal difference and the amount of games in hand that other teams around us have.

This tally is not insurmountable but after our hellish start to the season and our poor away form, making up those 9 or 10 points is a big ask.

I still think we have a realistic chance - even though it is a very tough ask

Also means no chance of keeping Naughton, or Davies (if he even arrives) - plus the almost certain loss of King and Wellens

Yeah - not much of a downside, that.

Nothing to lose........

No more excuses for poor performances then - to get in a play off position we will need to win 4 or 5 games on the trot - it will be very difficult but I'm confident we can continue our good start to the new year

I am not demanding the play-offs in any way (when Sven joined, I stated top half with a starting XI at the end of the season good enough for promotion); just saying we have the opportunity to give it a good go without much consequence.

We're also seeing consistent, enjoyable football at home which is brilliant. The Walkers has a bit of buzz for once.

I might also add that we will have spunked a huge load of thai money on loanee wages, rather than buying anyone

Leaving us with a paper thin squad, less money to play with in the summer, and possibly Sven pissing off to somewhere better

Nothing at all to lose, then.......

Both posts you've started off realistic I'll admit but the second part is opinion and playing out an assumed conclusion.

Everything rumoured about Wellens has probably been agent talk to get a new contract, last season Whittingham and Ambrose scored at a similar rate to King yet no-one's picked them up. Sven? God knows but it's already mentioned elsewhere that he's looked at bosman's and a pre-season for next season.

Granted our goal difference means the gap to the play offs is realistically 7 points at the moment but Leeds have played exactly the same amount of games as us and everyone bar Watford have only played 1 less than us so I don't get where you get a 10 point gap from. It's very do-able.

Teams above are going to drop points, we have to play them and they have to play each other. Quick list of some of the games against us and top 8 teams.

Feck me - can't we just worry about beating Sheffield United and stop with all this nonsense ?

Watford and Forest have played two matches and all the rest have played one fewer. I'm not counting Leeds because if each of the teams wins their games in hand (might not be possible if they play each other) then Leeds will be out of the top 6 anyway. Swansea would occupy the 6th place on 47, 8pts ahead of us. so, ok, maybe 9 pts would do it.

"if" being the key word here.

Because he's better than this league?

So's Pratley, Bothroyd, Westwood, Sinclair etc, doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get a move to the Prem.

And before I get picked up on it, I know Naughton already plays for a Prem side, but it seems his future lies elsewhere.
