Couldn't agree more! There are few things that I hate more than men who go on about being "proper lads" and boast about how they get shitfaced or what drugs they take and endlessly try to put forward a macho image. Especially the ones who try to make out how working class and hard their upbringing was, when they're some white, heterosexual, skinny kid with rich parents. Absolutely hate all those "laddish" indie type bands like Oasis, the Libertines, Kasabian etc.

I would have thought with your obvious intellect you would choose to like a band based on the music rather than image or personality? Some of the greatest musicians come across as grade A tossers to me, if I liked their music I would still buy it.

I'm pretty sure half the people I listen to are pricks, and I certainly don't agree with a lot of things some of them preach. I can't speak for Prof but for me, whiny middle class bellends generally tend to create music befitting whiny middle class bellends.

Acoording to the local media and a Cov fan I know, they have just taken out a loan against season ticket sales in order to pay the current wage bill. They have no money at all, they canot generate any real income because of the way their ground is owned. They don't even get the revenue from the vicuals sold on match day apparently.

Basically what BM said, there's plenty of music I like which is made by people I don't, but all those indie bands who are popular in the "laddish" scene tend to sound very similar. I don't hate them simply because they are in with that crowd, I like The Stone Roses for example, even though Ian Brown always comes across as an absolute arrogant tosser, but it's just that because a lot of those bands are influenced by the same artists they all sound similar and so I dislike a lot of them.

And yes, lyrical content is important to me as well and I find artists bragging about drug taking or drinking etc. in songs to be extremely off-putting to their music.

And I'll happily admit I'm an inverted snob. Though I am certainly judging the Libertines on their music and not on Doherty or the headlines. I heard the Libertines back when they were first making it big in around 2002 before all of Doherty's self-destruction and I disliked them then.

So you don't choose what music you like on the way it sounds, you check their backgrounds out and see how rich their parents are first?
