Tactics and formation. We need to play five acrosss the midfield. The 3 defenders McAuley, Kisnorbo and N'Gotty are strong enough to deal with the majority of attacks. 5 across would strengthen the midfield and give more attacking options. Play Hume and DJ up front, you have a work horse, who is good in the air as well, and a scorer (when he gets going). We need to stop playing players out of position and play a formation to the strength of the players we have and not what the manager finds preferable.
This is why i'm so frustrated with Holloway, to me it's an obvious formation for the players we have, why can't a trained football manager see the same.
Only my opinion of course.

I suspect that you may well be correct, if we were at the beginning of the season and had time to get used to a new formation but, now that the chips are down, any new formation will have to wait.

I'm playing a very similar team to our current playing staff on a pc Manager game and I just got promotion via the play offs (Final vs Leeds) and after a shaky start in the Premiership including a 7-0 thrashing by Liverpool I'm now holding my own and heading towards mid table.

I even had MDV in the team in the promotion season and he got over 20 goals and was top scorer. The main additional players were older City players who aren't much good anyway such as Williams, Nils Johannson(who I've both now sold) Hughes. The MAIN player who isn't a City player, and probably never will be, I've signed is Nicky Butt as Oakley wouldn't come for some reason and I needed a defensive midfielder as we were shipping too many goals.

So this just proves it's not really all about the players as it is as much about the manager the tactics and the general all round atmosphere aound the Club and at the moment we just aint got a lot of the other elements, although a few decent loan players wouldn't go amiss.

Are you serious?

It's a pity Holloway didn't think the same about changing tactics half way through the season. As far as I'm concerned, he should have carried on the way things were and got them playing his way in the reserves until they got it working.

We were playing that formation when Holloway arrived. So I imagine that, as a "trained football manager", Ollie is more than likely aware of the possibility. :icon_roll

But, just like the vast majority of people in football, Holloway doesn't think it's the way forward long term. I agree.

Holloway took over and changed us back to a more 4-4-2 based setup. I remember discussing on here the merits of trying to mold a team to the manager's ideas straight away versus waiting and trying to accommodate the available players in a formation that is not the manager's choice but may better suit the current players. The former has genuine long term ambition IMO, the latter can possibly get you a few extra points in the very short term.

Personally I'm glad Ollie stuck to his guns. Otherwise we'd still be playing five in midfield and looking at yet more upheavel, maybe disrupting the start of next season, in order to change it back to the manager's preferred 4-4-2. You can't expect a manager to always play to the strengths of those players who happened to be in the squad when he arrived - not if you're serious about backing his ability as a long-term manager rather than a short-term troubleshooter.

I agree with all of that (except it was more like 7 at the back 1 in midfield under megson) and we didn't have enough midfielders to do it properly anyway, which is why it wasn't very effective for us.

I wish people would take Championship Manager more seriously. I have won the premier with Leicester and was convinced that I was the man to fill Steve McLarens boots! And what do the FA do! They go and appoint somebody with no prior experience of Championship Manager! Utter Disgrace!

worst thread ever: kicked off by hieroglyphics, appended with management sim anecdotes

i feel that the thing most frustrating about where we are is the fact that on paper we have one of the best teams in the championship besides WBA. i feel that we just need a manager who can keep a stable team and most importantly get them to gel. it doesnt take a good manager to do this, we just need somebody with experience of dealing with this situatio. its the 11 players on the pitches faul. we need people with leicester city in their hear. i feel Taggert would of been good given time but so may the other 50. just look worthingtons gone on to manage ireland and megson boton! :icon_sad::023:

it's played on grass i mean im good on paper:icon_cool

i'm good at noughts and crosses...on paper

i'm good at noughts and crosses on paper, not so good on my cell wall though, can't seem to penetrate the copious amounts of rubber and padding
Have you tried using a charcoal based substance and then wiping it off?
