That was a good day out
That was a good day out
Our bus left from a pub in Melton at 6.00am and they opened the doors for us to have a couple before we left. It was a long day, but worth itI was away that weekend and ended up watching it in a caravan on a portable tv in the middle of Derbyshire of all places
I didn't get to see many games back in the late 90's, it's only now seeing old clips that I realise just how good he was. I know he played International football for Turkey but it's outrageous that he never got a look in for England.
He didn't get many games for Turkey and he wouldn't have made the England team. He was special in our set-up because we had the team ethic. Lennon was his rock. Great midfield partnership.
(and yes I saw his matches with my own eyes, live).
He didn't get many games for Turkey
According to his book, his Turkey experience wasn't a good one as he was very much a stranger who couldn't fit in. I'm sure that wasn't set up to bring the best out of him. There were plenty of media who suggested he should get a run for England but at that time (it's only slightly better now) he had no chance whilst playing with little old Leicester.
You may well be right, but if was at a bigger club he'd at least have been given he opportunity to try to prove you wrong. There weren't that many players with his skill around.
He did play in a world cup semi final though. He wouldn't have done that with England.
More than that he seemd to be a genuinely nice person.
Izzet and Lennon contrasted and complimented each other's play so well.
How times have changed if Muzzy was around today he'd be a nailed on starter for England
Definitely and in my opinion he should have been in the team in the late 90's.
He was great but to get into the 2000 squad as the "flair" midfielder he needed to replace Beckham, Scholes or Gerrard. other MF ince, wise, mcmanaman.
Who achieved the grand sum of **** all for England.
If he was playing at a bigger team at the time he'd have pissed getting in the England squad
Beckham, Scholes and Gerrard are all seen as being some of the best players England have had in the last 40 years.
Muzzy was a Chelsea reject who found his ideal partnered with Lennon. He wouldn't have got in the Manchester United/ Liverpool/ Arsenal teams. In fact there was never even any rumours of them wanting to buy him.
If he'd played for England they'd have still won sweet FA but that's not how you judge a player is it? Otherwise only the 1966 boys have ever done anything since we created football.
