The Kassam is the middle of nowhere, you've got a couple of options for a drink - one is the pub just before you get into the parking area called the Priory (no its not where Nobbie Wiliams goes) and is supposed to be away fan friendly - the second is in the "entertainment complex" next to the ground where you can find the massed delights of a cinema, bowling alley and such like. From the last time we played there I think you can also get a drink in the stadium.
The local kids must be well pissed off that we got rid of Benji, last time we played at the Kassam he went out at half time to practice his shooting and every single one ended up in the car park!
I'll be in the west stand (cheap tickets).
Travel wise this is from the Oxford United web site:
Getting to the Kassam Stadium
The Kassam Stadium is just outside the ring road on the South of the city, and clearly signposted on all major routes into Oxford.
By Train
Oxford station is a LONG way from the ground. Best take the number 5 bus from the Station (Stop R2) or walk into the City centre and take the same bus from Queen Street (Stop F4). Get off at Knights Road in Blackbird Leys which is a 5 minute walk from the Stadium. Buses take about 25 minutes from the station and 20 minutes from the city centre and run about every 5 minutes during the day until 18.33 and then every 8-10 minutes until late at night.
By Bus
The Oxford Bus Company is launching a new ticket deal for Oxford United fans for the 2005/6 season, responding to changes in travel patterns and making it easier for the majority of fans to get to the Kassam Stadium by bus.
"The Football Ticket" allows fans to use any combination of local bus services to get to the ground and return after the match. The Oxford Bus Company's Commercial Director, Nigel Eggleton explained, "We hope the new ticket will be popular with fans. It means they can get to the ground well before kick-off and enjoy the other facilities at the Ozone before or after the match. Over the last few years, since the club moved to the Kassam stadium, travel patterns have changed. More and more fans are using the regular bus services to get to the ground. Parking has been improved dramatically both at the Stadium and on Grenoble Road. As a result the direct match day services we run have become less popular hence the need to think again about our services to the ground"
With the new ticket supporters can use any service to get to the City Centre before changing on to the no 5 service which runs every six or seven minutes. As part of the new arrangements direction signs will be put up to direct fans from the stop on Pegasus Road along the short path that leads to the Kassam Stadium.
"The Football Ticket" will cost £2.50 return for journeys in zones A &B and £3.50 for journeys from zone C. The ticket can be used at anytime after noon on a Saturday and after 5pm on a midweek matchday. The ticket holder can use any combination of Oxford Bus Company services to get to the ground and can return on any permutation at anytime after the match.
"We believe the new arrangements, which will replace the football special buses, offer more flexibility to fans and enable more people to use buses to get to the Kassam Stadium." Nigel Eggleton added. For further information contact the Oxford Bus Company on 01865 785400.
