As for De Vries and Maybury the money that was spent on them is hardly going to bankrupt us, it is slightly different to us spending millions like we did in the Taylor days. Plus that money will either be recouped by moving players out or will be taken out of next years budget, or even better might be covered by a decent cup run. I certainly dont think Tim Davies et al would put the club at financial risk again.

I agree. I would like to think the club dictates what we allow a player to earn. If the agents get what they want we would soon be back in administration.I can't see us paying over the top wages to any incoming player. IMO the players and the agents have cooked their own goose and apart from the big clubs they have bled the smaller clubs dry with greed.

Just looking at the deals done recently or the possible incoming deals currently being touted, these signings are players who are coming from a league where unless you are playing for the big two you are likely to be on a pittance compared to there English counterparts.

For instance Burton O'Brien is quoted as being paid £900 per week at Livi and the talk is we will treble his wages. There is a massive difference in the level of wages we now appear to be paying and when you compare it against the likes of Elliott, Benji, Scowy and Walker, there will be massive savings, the club appears to have learnt it's lessons and know seem to be looking at longer term options and signing players with a hunger and desire to better themselves rather than signing has beens who are desperate for one last pay day. I would imagine Maybury and De Vries wages will be relatively small in comparison as well.

IMO we are heading back in the right direction, a lot of our success under MON was because we had players who were hungry and had desire but also were not paid as well in comparison to their counterparts at other clubs, this helped generate a hunger to improve it went sour when PT came in and the board dished out massive contracts, to players who were never going to win titles as soon as this happened they became too comfortable and lost their edge the rest was history.

I think that the MON regime started the big pay roll culture at the club, in order to keep the players that were doing a tremendous job here.
Lennon, Muzzy,Heskey,Elliott and others.
The problem came when these players were replaced by poor players on the same scale of wages by PT.

Exactly. Plus, of course, the incredible decision to give Matty a long term contract fit for a Chelsea player when he was already way past 30. Simply amazing that the Board of the day endorsed it.

However, I agree that lessons have been learned but as far as I am aware because the club came out of administration with little or no cash then its bound to be precarious until things pick up and a cup run would help.

I agree with you Redditch .If we can get past Reading and get a home draw in the 5th rd then there might be a good chance of a sell-out, television, and a very good pay day.

MON might have started the big contracts but they were to keep good players who would have kept us up and earn't the money we were paying them, where as the players taylor got in were poor and couldn't earn there money as they have showed.

MON was very good with his contracts.

Not so good with his contacts though, hence the glasses he wore all the time.
