sheff, i have to say the website is inspired. such a simple idea, have you copyrighted it? after your course, you should consider getting backing to roll it out to the whole division, then all english clubs. i'd invest!

Thanks Darth and Alex, the plan is to do that very thing in the future, but this won't be achieveable for I'd imagine at least the next 3 seasons (including the one) for the following reasons:

1) I'm at uni for the next two years and to find the time and money to start to expand in that manner is just not possible at the moment

2) I do not currently have the programming knowledge to implement something like that with an automated system

3) For this to happen, the site would have to be updated soon after the match with every single team in every single match of the afternoon, this is a very big job and for me to undertake it I'd have to stop going to City games (or get access to a spot in the media suite at the Walkers ;) ) or get people from each club working for me.

So you see the problem, so for now it will just remain a Leicester City Player Ratings site, but in the future who knows.

is the ratings thing copyrighted? or indeed copyrightable?

make it work for leicester on your own, then add another team just to show you can do it (Hinckley United!) for a trial period

if you need investment capital, i'm sure you could raise it from us lot for a share of future profits

once you've got it working for a couple of teams, flog it to a newspaper. they would have access to players and fixtures electronically already, The Times Fantasy League database could link straight in, it would only need one person doing admin and one developer (you on a consultancy basis maybe), hardly any costs. plus they have the server space already

what languages you coding in, java & xml ?

To be honest I wouldn't know how to go about copyrighting. The site is run using just html at the moment, i'm planning to learn more on php & mysql so that it can be implemented into a dynamic database driven site at some stage in the future, but its easily manageable as it is as the moment.

Also other than advertising on the site, I'm not sure about other ways to make profit from the site. Maybe someone could enlighten me on that front.

You don't have to do anything, if it's your work, you own the copyright to it, you don't have to register it or put any copyright notice on the site.

Other than advertising he only way to earn moey from it would be to charge people to use it, which isn't going to work for a site like that.
Another long term aim would be to wait until the site is really popular, then sell it for loads of money to someone who thinks they can make money from it.

Your biggest problem Sheff is someone with much more clout and money than you, will take the idea, chuck some cash at it and in no time they will eclipse you. Think Sky Sports or similar.

The idea of getting ratings from fans like this isn't a new one, I did it myself several years ago. It didn't last long though, it was too much work for a lazy bastard like me.

You can't copyright the idea, just the way you implement it.
