You lot are going to get very very wet.....:081::081::081:

They are real heroes to go to Accrington on a wet Tuesday night - or for that matter to go to Accrington at anytime.

However, in my view: the match is irrelevant; the competition is irrelevant and should be scrapped. because it clutters up the already congested fixture list and more football tends to produce poorer quality football.....and because virtually no manager takes it seriously then it's almost impossible to assess a result.

Bet you weren't saying that in our League Cup glory years!

Just parked outside the ground as the team coach was leaving. Maybe they were just having a look at the ground before going to a hotel.

Thought i'd be here by myself for ages but more leicester fans have just parked behind me.

They'll feck off when they realize its you:icon_wink

im going for a 2-0 leicester city see it being a hard game in shite conditions

In the main i would agree with you, but at the mo this could be more useful to us this season. This team with all its new players needs games to help produce a settled side. I'd sooner have a couple of games in the lge cup where there is no lge points at stake, whilst we try to establish a settled team. If we were to be a serious promotion contender then i'd be happy to be knocked out both cups at the earliest stage.

that a starter then before going to McDonalds for a BIGMAC then into the ground for a pudding of MEAT AND SPUD PIE

Apparently there is gridlock around Accrington. The old bill say that when Man U are in town theres never a problem, but because Leicester are playing the caterers at the football ground have ordered lorry loads of pies:icon_conf

You are quite right but over the last 8 years or so things have changed.

1. The practice of managers turning out virtual reserve sides for this competition has spread from the elite few to becoming general practice in the top two tiers and perhaps even below that.

2. We have becoming increasingly europeanised in the sense that the domestic cup competitions are not taken very seriously. This trend is now so strong in our country that it is now widely acknowledged that even the FA Cup itself is not what it was. Instead of teams getting key players fit to be able to play in cup ties, the opposite is the case- even the Readings of this world rest their best players.

In the broad only three competions count - the Premiership; the Championship (because it gets you into the Premiership) and the European Champions League - loads of money!. But if you look at the attendences for UEFA Cup games you will see that they are just sad - observe the huge gaps in the stadia for televised games.

So - things have drastically changed and i just think that it's time to dump at least one of the lesser competitions.

At first it seemed like a lack of respect when top teams would field 2nd/ youth team players for such games. It now seems that the resting of players and the prevention of injuries to key players is far more import even to lower rated teams than any one off payment they may recieve for a glammer cup match.

Thought it was the Carling Cup ??

There used to be a rule requiring clubs to field strong sides in all 'major' competitions - and they had to explain themselves if that was not the case.

I think that the only 'glamour' match in the League Club is now the final - and that's because it's mainly the venue.

As far as the FA Cup is concerned, Man U largely wrecked the competition's image when they chose to play in a lucrative foreign kickabout rather than enter the competition.

Theoretically I think the FA Cup could be saved as a competition by awarding the winners one if the European Champions League places. But the League Cup belongs in the bin now.

It'll never happen but i would like to have seen it replaced with an anglo-scottish cup, with less teams involved than the 92 English clubs.

i kinda think if we dont put all our effort into this one and either win or at least draw then im afraid to say we may lose;)

.......................... 2-0 city weso and hume, but im initially gonna be more intersted in wether MA is there or not.

Winners
Chelsea 2 - 1 Arsenal
Man Utd 4 - 0 Wigan Athletic
Chelsea 3 - 2 Liverpool
Middlesbrough 2-1 Bolton
Liverpool 2-0 Manchester Utd
Blackburn R 2-1 Tottenham
Liverpool 1-1 Birmingham (Pens 5-4)
Leicester C 2-1 Tranmere

Decent list of winners in recent times though, the necessity for the top 4 teams to win at least 1 trophy per season has meant they have started to field stronger teams earlier in the competition. Arsenal being the exception of course. We are probably the smallest club in the list of winners over the past 8 years.

In terms of FANBASE I'd say Blackburn are probably comparable if not slightly smaller...

I agree because the SFA would not support the idea - but wouldn't breath new life into the FA Cup if there were say 12 places for Scottish clubs at Round 3. It was obvious last season that even the Match of the Day pundits were concerned about the falling appeal of the competition.

My bet is that within 5 years, even the FA Cup will lose its Saturday/ Sunday slots.
