During pre-season various websites/newspapers and magazines predicted their top 6 finish for the championship.

Not once did i see Leicester City's name. Written off as usual.

One team that did crop up, on a regular basis was Peterborough.

One pundit in Sunsport, i forget who, guessed that they would finish 2nd!!!

On what basis exactally?

What did they show from last season that gave everyone the impression that they would piss on this league and finish above City?

Here we are coming up the Christmas and they are rock bottom, departed company from their "saviour" Ferguson and replaced him with some random bloke from non league football?

It really wound me up back in the Summer and so this is my :098: to the pundits out there, paid good money when they dont know jack.

Where were Hull at Christmas last season? Where did they finish?

Now Im not saying we are going to fall down the league, but maybe you should wait until at least halfway through the season before calling people idiots?

By the way it was Chris 'Unbelievable' Kamara who suggested Peterborough were going to finish 2nd, he also had us to finish 16th.

I think that pundits are very much swayed by managerial reputations. They underrated Nigel's achievement in getting Leicester back since a club like Leicester should never have got into League One in the first place. They rightly rated Darren Ferguson's achievement very highly and underated the difficulties a small club would face in adapting.

Parachute payments distort the Championship. I expected Middlesborough and West Brom to be the top two.l However, I expected Newcastle to self-destruct and I certainly did not see Ipswich being at the bottom.

Now I have admitted where I got it wrong and Kingy85 you have slammed the pundits. But didn't you get Ian Holloway wrong in your previous threads as Blackpool are in the top six.

Three predictions I did get right:
(1) Given a pre-season Ian Holloway is a good manager - though I would not swap Nigel for him
(2) Gary Megson is an effective manager though not a great one
(3) Martin Allen is unfit to manage a football club.

Cheers Willow, it was bugging me that i couldnt remember which pundit.

I guess theres a long way to go so nothing is definate, i still dont take kindly to their predictions though!

Not random - Mark Cooper. Do you think they just drew him out of a hat?

You're too old BM.

Young people like me know that the word "random" now means all sorts of things it didn't used to mean when you were a kid. It now means unusual, unexpected, odd, crazy, surprising, nonsense, shit, predictable, boring, expected, usual, mundane, and anything else you want it to mean when you can't think of the proper word to use.

I've noticed this as it happens. I'm no longer surprised that at 27 I speak a different language to those younger than me.

You're so random B155.

No, this is

So the meaning of the word random is actually quite random, in the original sense of the word.

I read a few predictions that we might be the top six surprise package (Not Mercury) I didn't believe anyone of them, happy to have been proved wrong so far.

My 16 year old son uses the word random when talking about various things, like you say in a random way, when to me the word doesn't fit. I'm sure that why Rowntrees have got these new "randoms" out to pick up on the "youth culture".
Now what the crocodile hat was that?

I'm sure Bolton fans will all agree with you:icon_wink

Other people are merely baffled by young peroples language but I am baffled by messages with emoticons. Are you saying that Megson is not an effective manager?

I used the word "effective" very carefully as I do not think he is as good as Nigel or even Holloway. However, I think anyone who keeps Bolton out of the bottom three is an effective manager. I said he is not a great manager since a great manager (Clough at Derby or Forest, Ramsey and Robson at Ipswich) takes a club like Bolton and challenges the Man Utds and Arsenals.

Milan has said that if Megson had stayed we would not have been relegated. I mean no disrespect to Ian Holloway when I agree with him. Leicester needed someone to steady the ship and calm things down after Martin Allen. That was Megson's strength but not Holloway's.
