I've noticed this as it happens. I'm no longer surprised that at 27 I speak a different language to those younger than me.

The Ginger Mourhino seems quite incapable of building a relationship with fans. This is a serious weakness.

However, perhaps, Bolton fans should be grateful to him. Bolton under Sam Allardyce consistently overachieved as Leicester did with MON, I expected that when Allardyce left Bolton would be relegated as happened when Martin left.
When Megson took over from Sammy Lee they were bottom of the table. They avoided relegation that year, last year and are not in the bottom three at the moment.
That is why I used say "effective but not great".

The very greatest managers - Busby and Shankley - were seen as gods. IMO the best of them all Brian Clough could tell the crowd off for bad language, thump supporters who annoyed him and the fans supported him when he did it.

The one exception and IMO the only manager to rival Clough was Sir Alf Ramsey. He won the First Division with Ipswich (unbelievable) and then the World Cup but was treated with great respect rather than affection.
