I think for Southampton the damage has already been done. They'll look for someone who can guide them up from the Championship whilst also giving them a slight glimmer of hope in their quest for survival in the Prem.

Agreed, but in that context I think they'd have been as well to stick with what they had. Martin did a great job last year and, with a year's more EPL TV money and parachute payments, likely have been able to build on it.
