Unless there's specific terms within the contract, then yes, that's what would happen.

Assuming there are no break, or get-out, clauses for either party specifically covering that scenario then yes, they are committed to paying him ~£250m in wages over the next 9.5 yrs whatever happens.

I'm sure HMRC are as happy, if not happier, about this deal than Haaland himself.

I suspect the contract length is more to do with accounting practice and spreading the load. In reality, if some other club wants him or he wants to go then it would happen. Within that contract, I'd guess there are a number of clauses etc that could bring it to an end.

Why would Man City care, they break the rules repeatedly and get away with it anyway. They'd probably get some form of mitigating circumstance loophole and it's still pocket change to Sheikh Mansour.

My first thought after seeing that Haaland is getting £500k a week was to wonder how much he really was receiving.

The advantage of spreading the load/transfer fee is during the initial contract.

Haalands book value for Man City was around £10m per year and would owe them £25m now.

His amortised value per year will go down to around £2.7m so it would give them around £7.3m extra per year in the eyes of PSR.

However, he's now getting paid £26m per season so any saving on his annual amortisation is almost certainly wiped out, and quite possibly eclipsed now with his increased wage so there will be little to no benefit on the books.

The benefit is they have secured the best striker in the world for the next 10 years and if anyone wants him, they will have to pay an absolute fortune

It's also a statement to the rest of the league/Europe that they aren't going anywhere and it's also likely to attract more players and show that the financial issues won't have any effect on them whatsoever.
