Premier League 23/24

This might be where I am. I struggle to watch a game all the way through these days because everyone is knock-off Man City and it’s boring as all ****.

It doesn't mean that you don't like football any more though does it?

It's a fashion and a hype and a load of nonsense.

I keep saying that the standard of football management is the problem. It's dreadful. A load of pretenders just copying the latest trend.

Football can be played in many ways. All we need is someone to suss out how to exploit the trendy style and it will collapse as quickly as it has come to dominate.

Klopp did it about three years ago with the chaos 4-3-3 played at ultra high tempo and a high line. Then it was worked out and they fell to pieces and have had to rethink. Same will happen with Man City, unless they just buy anyone that shows signs of intelligence.

Foot ball is like music (Ok, no it isn't).

I don't say that I don't like music now because all the stuff in the charts (if they still exist) and on the radio is cheap manufactured rubbish.

There is good music out there, and in foot ball, there's a team I like that seem to be doing OK but no-one on telly knows about them because they're not currently in the charts in the Prem.

It’s a bit like when people say we need an initiative to tackle the abuse of referees. Foul or abusive language has been a red card offence for years, and yet is rarely applied in the professional game. You hear the argument that games would be reduced to 8 a side etc as a justification for not doing it, but I don’t believe that. Players would adapt and it would help, if they applied that ruling. They don’t, however and then we end up trying new initiatives to improve conduct.

If added time was properly managed, I don’t think we’d end up in the situation we’ve got, but I don’t believe it is and I don’t think we’ll get there within the current structure, so I’d do something completely different.

Just my views, obviously, but I genuinely believe it would improve the game.

Look at two other sports. Rugby and AFL. The referee/umpire takes no shit so the players don't give them any. If they do, more fool them. The referee/umpire gives the gobby ****'s team a meaningful penalty. In AFL a fifty metre penalty is given, which often equates to a goal for the opposition. It's rare that it happens because the penalty is so harsh (but fair).

They won't ever do this in football though because the game is ****ed up beyond all recognition. The players are seen as royalty and as such almost invincible to any discipline.

They did actually bring it in a few years back
It didn’t last very long.
Like a lot of new “rules” that come in, it slowly died after a few months.
Howard Webb, has stated that he wants these latest efforts to last

I did see two players get booked in the Chelsea Liverpool game yesterday for demanding the red book someone.

Jackson for Chelsea and then, about two minutes later, Macallister for Liverpool, which I thought was especially dumb after just seeing someone else booked for the same.

Good to see, and if the refs keep it up then it would soon stop.

Been quite a few yellows already for players moaning at the ref.

Waiting for the 1st 2nd yellow mind

The refs are all cowards - they’ll never do it if it means it results in a red card

Will all be long gone in a couple of months time, along with the longer extra time thing

They won't do it. They don't have the guts. The referees in the modern game are as shit as most of the players, and when I say shit, I mean just shit blokes.

Didn't a ref send off a Rotherham player for exactly this on Saturday? And got criticism from pundits for doing it.
And he'll get little support from the FA. Just like the police get little support from the courts and the law-abiding public get little support from the police.

I'd love to hear the VAR reasoning for that not being a foul.

They have to start broadcasting the VAR discussion, it's bringing the game into disrepute by not doing so.

If it had happened to Man U I guarantee you they would not ****ing shut up about it. I’m not sure the pundits have given it 5 seconds
‘analysis’ yet.

The whole 'waving imaginary cards' thing was clamped down on years ago but disappeared again. A few booked for it over the weekend as it's now apparently back. I hope it stays. I have an urge to punch players who do it.

This fouling by keepers needs to be seriously addressed

A while back on ref watch , Dermot Gallagher, when asked about a keeper fouling , said he’d never give s foul against the keeper.
WTF not?

Tonight’s decision was nothing short of scandalous

You just know it would have been given if it had been Sa rather than Onanna though.
