You can take the man out of Spurs but you can't take the Spurs out of the man

Very strange to see Harvey Barnes in Newcastle colours.

But all the best to him. Hopefully Howe helps him achieve his potential. And maybe even learn a new trick.

I know they say the target is 40 points, but Luton’s first target should be Derby’s woeful low target .

Watching the Brentford game. The game is ****ing crazy elaborate now. Random substitution rules. Playing on for 20 years and then coming back for a penalty. It’s all balls.

These new extra time rules should just be called the ‘play until the bigger team scores’ rules.

Its bollocks. The game wasn’t broken.

Having seen it in action a bit now, I think it's one of the most absurd rule changes I've ever seen.

Is time wasting a problem in football? Of course.
Does it need addressing? Yes.

The arrogance of the game to say our way of tackling this issue is just to carry on playing much longer.

No. **** off with making games much longer.

Do your jobs better. Players stop wasting time. Officials do your job and don't allow them to waste time.

Why should supporters sit about for another 20 minutes while you fanny about?

**** off, the lot of you. I'm going to be leaving games earlier and earlier I reckon. If you're fecking about, I'll let you get on with it. I'll be half way down Raw Dykes Rd thanks.

Why don't you take off any first half injury time from their half time break instead? No?

As I’ve said a few times, just make it 30 mins of live play per half. Stop the clock every time the ball is dead. It’ll be slightly more than we get at the minute, but will make time wasting irrelevant, which should hopefully then mean that it doesn’t actually take any longer to play out.

I don't like that idea.

All it will mean is that there is absolutely no pressure to resume play when the clock stops. At least now, there is a pretence of urgency. If the clock stops on an injury, goal or substitution, they'll take much longer before resuming.

It will therefore not improve anything and may make it worse.

We need to just impose the existing rules.

I don't think it will make time wasting irrelevant, because teams will still do it to disrupt their opponents. Refs should be strict and hand out yellow cards when that happens.

The current system doesn't work if refs don't do it properly. I listened to the end of the Oxford v Carlisle game yesterday. Eight added minutes were indicated. During added time, the ref warned the Oxford goalkeeper for timewasting, there was a substitution and a couple of other stoppages. The ref blew for full time dead on the eight minutes.

Personally I think just leave it as it was. It has always been part of the game. Sometimes it goes for you. Sometimes against you. Refs can always book for time wasting. I don’t want to watch 15 ****ing minutes extra each half because the Saudi state found it entertaining. The game is rotten.

I guess I mean irrelevant in terms of using up what would have been “live” time. Yes there is also the possibility that they’ll try to break up the flow of the game, but it would be irrelevant in terms of using up game time.

Possibly. At least we’d know where we stand though, whereas this current system doesn’t feel accurate at all.

It’s a bit like when people say we need an initiative to tackle the abuse of referees. Foul or abusive language has been a red card offence for years, and yet is rarely applied in the professional game. You hear the argument that games would be reduced to 8 a side etc as a justification for not doing it, but I don’t believe that. Players would adapt and it would help, if they applied that ruling. They don’t, however and then we end up trying new initiatives to improve conduct.

If added time was properly managed, I don’t think we’d end up in the situation we’ve got, but I don’t believe it is and I don’t think we’ll get there within the current structure, so I’d do something completely different.

Just my views, obviously, but I genuinely believe it would improve the game.
