Puel out?

Yep has to be a bollocks story.

Why would a 2-1 defeat away at Utd where the general perception was that we played a lot better than last season push him closer to the edge after the owners backed him all summer?

Let’s see what happens if we slump to defeat next week. And then he will have the pressure of returning to his old club.

People going to be as patient if we’ve got no points after four games? Which would be something like 11 defeats from the last 15 or thereabouts?

And therein lies the problem. For Puel he has to view the Wolves game as must win. Is that fair? Probably not, but he is still odds on to be the first manager sacked I think.

Hopefully he gets at least 4 points from the next two and it all dies down a bit.

I believe he can only be fairly judged having now got in his own players.

He should and I’m sure will be given a bit of time for the new signings to bed down.

I am optimistic of his signings.

Even if we were thinking of sacking Puel neither of those two should be considered ffs. Rather us get Ted Rodgers or Mr and Mrs Ince than those ****ers.

Clearly someone, somewhere has an agenda to destabilise our club.

My own view is that we should rally round and give Monsieur Puel the support and respect he deserves until such time as it is evident he is not capable of producing a successful team. That time is not now.

When is that time Volpone?

Were we to lose our next three games, Puel would have the exact same return that Ranieri had in 16/17 when he got sacked.

In 16/17, Ranieri had 25 games and got 21 points (0.84 per game).

Puel has 21 points from his last 22 games (0.95 per game).

Shakespeare's entire spell in charge was significantly better than either of the above too (1.38 per game).

Why should our owners should show more loyalty to Puel than they did the manager and assistant manager during our biggest ever achievement?

Liverpool away is a tougher fixture than Man Utd away. I think it is entirely possible that his future hinges on the results of these next two matches as the Mirror reports.

I wouldn’t worry about comparisons and stats. If that were to happen he’d be gone, regardless of the rest of your post (interesting as it is, though).

There’s some right mentalists on here.

Are some seriously suggesting that our owners would allow a manager to spend the thick end of £100 million and then sack him after four games, seriously?

Didn’t anyone see the VAST improvement in performance on Friday v last season.

Puel said all along by he would need to rebuild to play his style of play, this is what he has done, now let’s just try and enjoy it for a bit, can we?

Puel may have been a significant factor in us signing two of the seven that came in this summer (Ricardo and Ghezzal). I doubt whether he had anything to do with the other five. Managers don't do that any more. It's several years since we signed players on the basis of what the manager wanted.

Puel hasn't spent a penny. It's the club (led by Macia) that are recruiting based on the instructions given to him by the Director of Football. Puel is nothing more than a consultant in the process. I think almost all clubs do this now and it makes total sense.

I've posted my thoughts on our performance on Friday elsewhere. However, Puel's future will be determined only by results. Pretty, losing, football is meaningless. You've also set an incredibly low bar in your decision to compare the start of this season with the end of the last one. Remind me again who the manager was that systematically destroyed any semblance of decent football as last season went on?

I would love to see Puel win me over and get some early wins. It would be best for our season. If he doesn't do it, he'll either go after the Liverpool match or be given the next four after that at the absolute most. It's totally unrealistic to expect anything else.

A Premier League club is not going to take a chance on a man that has never been a manager before, it very rarely happens. Henry is going to have to cut his cloth at a lower level no doubt if that's what he wants to do. I'd like to think Puel has a bit longer than the next three games but it's right to say that the likes of Wolves and Southampton are teams we need to be picking up results against more often than not. I think after 10 games or so is usually enough to gaueg what kind of season you're going to end up with and a fair amount of time to give and see where we're at. I think he'll get time provided performances are positive and we're not struggling at the foot end. Top half would be acceptable for him to keep his job.

Pretty, losing football against a very good side that will win far more games than they will lose, particularly at home.

I was using Friday as a gauge for the future and from what I saw the green shoots are there to indicate that we will improve significantly from that performance.

If we play that way for the next 18 away games I would expect us to perhaps win 6, draw a further 6 and lose perhaps 5 or 6 more.

That would give us ~24 away points and would stand us in good stead should we produce half decent home form and perhaps win 10. We should be aiming for as many points as we can obviously but a return of 55 to 65 would show significant progress along side the performance levels, don’t you think?
