A 20 year spell with the club. That is loyalty personified. I confess to not knowing much about him but clearly someone who was tied to the club and forever will be in our history.

Rest in Peace.
well put silver.

RIP Mr. Smith. Can you imagine anyone staying at a club that long now?...

My partner looked after him on her ward a few weeks a go before he was moved. Very nice man apparantly. Basically he gave up the will to live as he knew his condition wouldn't improve.

A true LCFC legend. :038:

As you can see,i`m not someone that posts often, but felt that i had too, tonight, for sep.
Sep was my dads uncle,my great uncle, and someone that i`m very proud to say was part of our extended family.
Sep was the youngest of seven brothers, from a place called whitburn, near sunderland.
Five of the brothers played pro football, Jack and Billy played for portsmouth, tom played for Leicester and man utd, before dieing in his early thirties, joe,my grandad, played at Leicester, but couldn`t force his way into the first team, and moved to watford, and of course sep played for Leicester.
Jack played for England 3 times and sep played for England once, but even then we were seen as an unfashionable club, and was difficult to get any recognition, while playing for us.
My dad always told me what a fantastic player sep was,and that when the young Don Revie came to Leicester, sep took him under his wing, and my Dad said to watch Don Revie play was to watch sep play, sep had so much influence on the way he played.
Sep even appeared on This is your life, for Don Revie!
When we got to the 49 cup final,Don revie had to miss it through injury, and alot of people felt sep should have played,as a ready made replacement, despite his being at the end of his playing days, but instead they played someone, who i think was harrison, who apparently was related to someone who was high up on the board,i think he was a son in law or something, and they actually played him out of position,to accomadate him in the team.
It was a shame that Sep never got to play in a cup final, but he did play in a semi final against portsmouth, around about 1934,against his two older brothers,Jack and Billy, unfortunately we lost.
Sep was the last of the brothers to pass away, and even out lived my dad,who was very proud to have him as an uncle, and would be very sad at his passing, but now sep and his brothers, and my dad,who was also at city,as a youth, before going to play at reading, can have a kick about together again,i bet my dad makes sure seps on his side!

rest in peace uncle sep.

Thanks very much for taking some time out of what must be a very busy and emotional time for your family to tell us something of the nature and story of your great-uncle.

Jimmy Harrison wasn't actually related to anybody on the board at the time of the 1949 Final - he was about to marry the chairman's daughter though! Whether there was any favouritism or not, we will never know but he only played one more game for City after the Final before being transferred to Villa; it was felt that the barracking reaction that the player was receiving from the Filbert Street faithful on account of the relationship was beginning to get out of hand. He had played at centre-forward on several occasions previously although he was a full-back and, in fact, scored in his post-war debut after starting the game in the number 9 shirt. Nevertheless, despite the fact that Sep had virtually retired about six months earlier, many people thought he should have been slotted into Revie's inside-right position rather than moving Jack Lee back and putting Harrison up front.

Sep did have one more very important game to play - as part of the team that drew with Cardiff on the last day of the season; a result that stopped us going down into the 3rd division - possibly an even more importanyt game for City than the fianl in the greater scheme of things.

Sep had a testimonial game the following season against Notts County - he is said to have got £2,100 from that. How long would it take a player to earn that nowadays? Sep was allowed to stay on the coaching staff after he stopped playing but that soon came to an end when a new manager was brought in a few months into the new season and he left the club. Some reward for his loyalty, eh?

I trust that you and your family will be blessed with the peace that your great-uncle is now enjoying.

Thanks Boc. As alway, very informative..and a fitting tribute to a true gentleman and a Leicester legend..R.I.P. Septimus..You've earned it.

I actually saw Sep play during the war in the wartime league about 1944 until his retirement very tall emposing
Centre-half, very good in the tackle, could play and believe
did sometimes play at right half and right back, sterling service for the club R I P
