Feriol said:match experience is vital for the younger players,
players returning from injuries will also be effected
and fringe players will be too unfit if they are called upon for the first team.
this can only be a bad thing, despite the spin on the official site article.
bocadillo said:It's a silly, silly peny-pinching idea!
Feriol said:what do you think will be the long term cost to the first team?
bocadillo said:I think it will cost the whole club, not just the first team. You yourself have already written some of the reasons it is not a good idea. It removes the link-span between the academy and the first team. Where will the decent academy-graduates get their match experience in the future - else where, that's where. And once they've gone elsewhere, they will stay elsewhere and we will be left to buy in the market. I really don't see the point of having an academy if you're not going to be able to develop them from then on until they are ready for the first-team.
It's short-termism - just like the ground-share idea!
Melton Fox said:Why can't the reserve leagues reflect the 1st team leagues?
Obviously you are relying on your 1st team regarding relegation or promotion, but there could be a financial incentive for winning the league, or a dedicated reserves FA cup.
Something is possible, surely?. It can't just end, that is nothing short of preposterous
