Confirmed
Leicester City is pleased to confirm the deadline day signing of former Portuguese international goalkeeper, Ricardo, on a short-term contract until the end of the season, subject to an International Transfer Certificate.
The 34-year-old was previously at Spanish side, Real Betis before his contract was concluded by mutual consent. He has been on trial with the Foxes for the past week.
Ricardo is well-known to City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson after ending England's dreams at both Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup after penalty saving and scoring heroics against the Three Lions when the Swede was England boss.
Leicester striker, Darius Vassell, was one of the England players who were thwarted by Ricardo in 2004 as his penalty was saved by the talented stopper.
City boss, Eriksson, was pleased with the signing after considering a move for an extra goalkeeper since arriving at the club.
"I am delighted that we've been able to secure Ricardo on a permanent contract. He has impressed during his time at the club and brings extra competition to our goalkeeping department.
Ricardo is an excellent shot-stopper with agility and he plays with great confidence. He has played at the highest level and will be a great addition to our squad. Plus, he owes me after 2004 and 2006, so I'm sure he will be keen to do well for us."
Ricardo will not be eligible for tomorrow's npower Championship clash against Sheffield United.
