I think Weale is nowhere near the top 10 best keepers in our division, he can't kick the ball any distance or accurately, is slow to make decisions, doesn't communicate with the back 4 and is suspect on shots. If Ricardo is similar I think we have wasted a signing.

Agree 100%

seems to be conficting reports, some say loan others say short term contract, which is it? As there are only 5 loan players allowed in matchday squad we already have "certain starters in Naughton Van and Yak and presumably Sven will go for more loans eg Brauma when loan window opens

Definitely a short term contract. He was unattached.

I have come to the conclusion that Weale is good unless the shot is from outside the box. Anything inside and he deals with it extremely well - most of the time - anything from outside tends to go in.

Get the ground staff to paint some extra big penalty boxes going up to the halfway line. Clean sheets from here on in.

Ssn reported this as a loan.

Another loan...

At this rate half the squad will leave at the end of the season.

Here I go again - I am thinking of changing my Username to PreSeason.

Ricardo may not be a loan but he is on a short term contract. It does seem to me that half the team (not the squad) will leave at the end of the season and this may be no bad thing.

Please correct me if I am wrong but under Sven the only transfer fee I can recall is a modest one for La Bamba. Vassell did not cost a fee and what a bargain. There has however (I would guess) been a big outlay on wages which will go when the loanees go.

Sven has solved an emergency brilliantly - and being bottom of the Championship after letting in six goals does count as an emergency. This however has been crisis management and of his signings I would guess only Bamba and Vassell will be here next year (I would love to add the Yak to that list.)

During the preseason Sven will have the chance and above all the time to build the squad he wants. Providing Sven is still here I am really looking forward to next season. To quote another poster (apologies that I have forgotten who) I feel "The futures bright the futures Sven"

Are we only allowed so many signings then??

I know very little about this fella apart his games against England.

However, he has won a lot of international caps and has played at a high level. He's also a good age for a keeper.

This means he must be substantially better than Weale who is a very average keeper and has cost us several points this season already.

No it doesn't.

It means he was better than Weale.

He's not played competitive football for a long time. There must be a reason for that.

Maybe he's as good as he ever was but his club would have had to pay him more if he played, and they couldn't afford it. Or maybe he's not the player he was and he's no better than Weale.
We won't know until we see him play.

Well using that sort of logic you could argue that Weale (2008 version) is better than Weale (2010 version).

If Weale and Ricardo are both deteriorating in ability at roughly the same rate, Ricardo may be a shadow of his former self and still massively out class Weale.

We could sign Peter Shilton but that would be a bit daft. In contrast, a 34 year old keeper isn't past it.

Ricardo has signed after being prepared to come on trial to a Championship club to rebuild his career. Unless Sven is a complete loon, he's well worthy of the first team place.
