The idea that players are past it at 30 is an old fashioned one IMO. If he's looked after himself he's got 6-10 years left.

The average player stays at a club for a couple of years max these days. Let's say we do sign him, and he stays for a longer-than-average five years. At the end of that five years, he'd still be younger than this season's Premier League PFA Player of the Year!

If we were signing loads of 37 year olds I'd be a tad concerned. But we've got a very young squad with a few senior pros, and some players at the peak of their careers - mid-to-late twenties - would be ideal IMO.

Take a look on the article to the right of the report when you click the link to the wellens article. This other article is headed 'who is the worst premier league signing ever.' Lo and behold there is a picture of Adi Akinbye! I don't think I'd spend much time arguing with that assessment.
