This might be sort of old news that people don't care about anymore, but one of my mate's at Uni's Dad was chatting to the owner of The Griffin in Loughborough, and the landlord says he speaks to CL quite often and he reckoned his payoff was about £1.5m! Anyone know if that's true? Seems a lot. I know it's quite a tedious link, but the mate who told me would've been telling the truth since they know nothing about football, but I don't know how truthful the guy in the pub is...
Anyway the reason I mention it, do we have to pay a similar amount in compensation if we steal someone like Cotterill/Newell? Is it that we pay up the rest of their contract?

I'd say it was less than half of that. He will have taken roughly that in wages and a pay off (assuming he gets it all) over the the 3 years.

i would say not as much as that luffbra somewhere nearer 500, 000 but hey what do i know ;)

most of those housing puns were only semi funny

I did my best....:icon_redf

Isn't The Griffin the pub that a certain Mr Alan Birchenall runs (or at least used to)? And it's not so much in Loughborough as in Swithland, about 5 miles out. I used to live just down the road!
Anyway, what I mean is that if it was Mr Birchenall giving the info, it could actually be about right....

This pub is definetely in Loughborough at it's in the town centre, so probably not the one Birch runs ;)

For fecks sake CL sent him to them! The guy didn't have a clue! Unless the striker was so bad he was worse than ours!

I saw him play and he looked decent to me, very quick, big and strong.

I used to go to the Griffin in Swithland all the time when Birch was there. That's how I got to know a lot of the team back then - Walshie, Julian Watts, Scott Taylor, etc, plus Gary Mac was in sometimes as well, and high jumper Ben Challenger. The pub was actually run by Birch's wife and son, Dean, and all Birch had to do with it was the pub quizzes on Wednesday nights (which were hilarious!). They left there seven or eight years ago to go to a pub in Quorn (the White Horse?), but I don't think Birch has had anything to do with pubs since a year or two before they left the Griffin.

Birchy also used to have some interests in a shoe factory or something...?
