The Ryder Cup used to be a completely shite competition that no one was in the least bit interested in. America would simply stuff us every time (not even their best players either), and nobody watched it and nobody cared about it

It's the same principle that applies to supporting GB in the Olympics. You support the person/team that is representing your place of birth/residence/choice.

I can't. I just mean few years ago I found it an interesting sporting contest. No, just don't - the advent of playing as Europe is one reason.

Whilst agree with the principle - I just don't consider myself European. Whereas I do consider myself British.
