Saving songs to an MP3

Can anyone help?

I have zero experience of saving music to MP3 or any other medias. We've ripped a CD to the Windows Media Player library and synched the transfer to the MP3 player.

The files won't play - saying format unknown. It does play other files which were originally on the laptop.

Is it because one is an MP3 file and one a WMA?

Most MP3 players will play WMA files but some (Apple ones for example) won't.

In the Windows Media player settings you should be able to tell it to convert the CD to MP3 rather than WMA.
