Add in some awesome dramas over the last 10 years (Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Sopranos) and it's a bit of a golden era for American television.
If we are to completely jump the rails from the thread (which I am happy to do so), that show is a rather gruesome blemish on American television. But let me say this; between Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock and Community the Americans are catching up in terms of great comedy.

I've lost interest in True Blood....Boardwalk Empire has been getting increasingly better over the last few weeks. Fringe, too, has developed really well.
For me, the three HBO shows Deadwood, Sopranos and The Wire are about as good as the medium gets.
