After witnessing the last 2 home performances, I made a concious decision not to post anything regarding the current state of affairs at the Walkers until I had had time to take stock of the situation and rid myself of the emotion that would clearly of clouded my judgement. Now after having time to reflect these are my feelings.
I have, and despite the recent poor run, remain a staunch supporter of Levein and what he is trying to achieve both in the short and long terms. However I do have a couple of constructive points which I would like to mention, these issues have given the "Levein out" minority, the opportunity to vent there anger and disapproval.
1) Craig, please pick what you believe to be your best XI and then barring injury or suspension, keep that team together for a run of 7 or 8 games, this constant tinkering, isnt working, the team looks disjointed and short of confidence. Lets get a settled side, you never know it may help solve our left back problem. Players cannot be playing to their full potential when they know they may only have one game to impress, no wonder our players look nervous and apprehensive.
2) Elvis scored his first goal on saturday, his confidence would have been sky high, yet he was left on the bench until the final 5 -10 minutes when it was clearly too late, why did he not come on to replace De Vries, it was obvious that the long ball forward was not working, it would have been great to change it around and get behind the defence, Elvis with his pace and confidence would have ran the Brighton defence ragged especially Butters who clearly lacks pace. Craig please can we be a little more inventive with substitutions, it was even obvious to me who the subs would be and when and who they were likely to replace, we are too predictable.
3) Kisnorbo should never play left back, it was criminal, we have 2 players both naturally left footed available and yet you pick a central midfielder who is right footed to play there. Paddy did ok and was fairly solid, but it was a very negative move and because of this we lost all attacking momentum down the left and we looked unbalanced. Give Sheehan or Gilbert a decent run and this will no doubt give them confidence and we should see this problematic position resolved, Johansson is not the solution either, we need to be a vibrant and energetic team with the ability to attack down both flanks, as soon as either Nissa or Kisnorbo play there we lose the ability to attack with our full back and that is too defensive.
4) I know we needed to tighten up, we were leaking too many goals early on, but I feel our tactics have now restricted our attacking options too much, we need to attack more, be more positive, we look a far better and more potent team when we adopt the tactics we used earlier on in the season. I am not saying we go gung ho but lets stamp our authority on the game, we seem to worry too much about the opposition, let them start to worry about us. Craig you seem to have let some of the negativity from the fans cloud your team selections and tactics. Be brave and follow your instincts, the early season we looked a good side and the improvement was there for all to see, recently we have lost that zest and energy and we are playing with too much restriction the players dont look comfortable.
Overall I can still see that the long term plan can be a success, and I still believe you are the right manager, this is the acid test and hopefully saturday against Derby will be the start of the revival.
If this has been construed as negative, I apologise as it isnt meant to be, I believe CL should have at least until xmas next season, I am just being honest in a constructive manner.
