After the accusations from some about no progress being made... A year on and 9 games in I'm happy to point out some factual improvements from this point last season: ;)

By this time last year we had received 3 red cards. Now we have had none.

By this time last year we had scored 8 league goals, now we have scored 10. But more important than that statistic for me is that we had only scored 3 home goals in five home games at this point last season, as opposed to this season's tally of 6 home goals in four home games.

The average age of Adams's squad at the start of 2004/2005:
Goalkeepers: 28/29
Defenders: 28/29
Midfielders: 29/30
Strikers: 27/28
Total Squad: 28/29

The average age of Levein's squad at the start of 2005/2006:
Goalkeepers: 27
Defenders: 21/22
Midfielders: 24/25
Strikers: 24/25
Total Squad: 23/24

(all players who were given squad numbers before the start of each season are included)

No comparison of the points total! Does this mean that we are doing worse?

You can spin any statistics to a positive or negative tone.

The biggest difference between today and 12 months ago is that we now have the potential to get a lot better.

Under Mental Mickey the best we could have hoped for was stagnation.

I could have posted that here if I wanted to Steven...

It made good points about how we have progressed in many ways since last year. :023: ;)

It is good to see the average age drop such a long way. We're doing about the same in terms of points as we were at this stage last season, but the difference is that with Micky's pensioners, things would have got worse due to the players getting older and closer to retirement. With Levein's team being so young, things should only get better for them.

Although, I do think maybe our defence is a little too young now. I think at the back you need some experience, and we should have an average of around 25 in defence, rather than 21. Johansson and Maybury are our only defenders with any real experience. But having said that, I'm happy enough with the squad, and would rather have defenders that are 22 than defenders who are no better and 32. At least the likes of McCarthy and Stearman are likely to improve. Dabizas and Makin would've just got worse!

Thing is now CL is just on some kind of 'young player' only drive. It seems he wont even consider older players now.

Im getting pretty pissed off with CL at the moment to be honest - I want to see some improvement, but it seems hes happy to have another season of midtable nothingness. But he needs to be realistic - if he continues down this road (especially playing for a draw) then the attendances are going to drop below 20,000 a match - in which case he can forget buying more than 2/3 players in the close season.

SO why not make the best of what hes got and go for wins! Were not paying perfectly good money to see him set out to achive a Draw! Wolves yesterday just pissed me off - I can do without going all the way over there to see an utterly defensive formation, from which we never looked like scoring - and didnt!

As for those facts; if you take out the Stoke Match, which you might aswell becase the only scorer in that game was Conners, then this season actaully looks worse than last! And you can look at the red cards anyway you like- one thing you could say is at least they cared and had some heart in it!

I agree. "There are lies, damn lies and statistics."

Overall I think we are in a better position even if the performances still arent up to what i would like to see from the club.

i agree that stats can be twisted, but we have improved from last season, I think that there is proof from our overall performances, if we can get a settled back four and start scoring, there could be a chance of the play offs...

How about 9 points from 9 games and were a game away from the relegation zone.

you see, it can be twisted the other way round to.;)

dont know how anyone can say they had their heart in it last year. that was mainly the problem, no one gave two shits as it was a last pay day. at least these lot are young and hungry, and yes it will take time but it will come eventually.

give our NEW team time for fecks sake.

Connolly has gone Steven ;) Anyhow, it doesn't matter if they are all worth £10 Million if they play like complete tarts every week.

We were talking on the long slog back from Cardiff having watched a quite pathetic display, that almost a year ago a newley appointed manager was sitting in the stand at Ninian Park watching his new team play out a 1 all draw with a Cardiff side that included Earnshaw, Gabidon etc, he must have thought to himself I`ve got to completely change this team, bring in my own players, my own idea`s and take this team forward, well, a year on what if he was sitting in the stand at Ninian Park watching his new team get beaten by a poor Cardiff side with no decent players ? In my view we have not progressed one jot in that year, and before you start talking about ages, wage bills etc you must remember that I don`t give a tinkers about all that, I`m a football fan and I go to watch my team perform. to WIN football matches especially against crap like Cardiff and even more so at home, and this simply is not happening.

SPOT ON!

We have even reverted to the long ball game we all hated so much under Adams at the end of his reign.
