Puel signed some good players. It's weird how forgettable that era is: the strange bridge between the Pearson/Ranieri/Shakespeare era and the Rodgers era where, for a while, we thought we were transforming into a top-four club.

When you delve a little deeper it isn’t:

Maddison, agreed.
Pereira, great but made of glass, not played much.
Soyuncu, agreed, not his fault.
Benkovic, awful.
Ward, awful.
Ghezzal, awful.
Evans, work shy, shit captain.
Diabate, awful
Youri, great for 2-3 seasons then instrumental in getting us relegated.

Doesn’t read quite so well.

Madison, Pereira, Evans, Youri have been central to top 5 finishes and winning the FA cup.
Diabate was a gamble that didn't pay off.
Ward and Ghezzal were terrible signings.
Benkovic was a gamble that didn't pay off.
Recruitment is hard. Most signings are shit.

That’s not fair. It’s not Puel’s fault many of those players got Brodgered.
 
Surely the reading here needs to be; we had a good recruitment team in place, Rodgers came in and dismantled it - hence such poor recruitment in the years since.

Incidentally, Diabate was 100% a Puel signing based on his sons recommendation (IIRC).

This is fair. Even before we won the prem we signed Inler as well as Kante. Nathan Dyer other than his concussion goal was a bit pointless. The problem we've had in recent years is ALL the signings were shit.

Very important and significant goal.
 
At least now we've got Ricardo and Justin back, the queue for the LCFC treatment table (where once Matty James held squatters rights) must have reduced somewhat
