yeh i think they would of, as if we hadn't had them who else would of-certainly not any premiership teams, the greedy old journeymen.

I'm sure Dickov would have had other offers, he seemed to take quite a while to sign his new contract when we got promoted, maybe it was the get out clause that persuaded him to stay.

Be interesting to see if any of the Southampton players have similar clauses, a lot of them have pay cut clauses in their contract, the get-out clauses went hand in hand with the pay cut in our players contracts.

The difference being that their players would not have been expecting the need for a get out clause because they would not have thought that the wage reduction clause would be invoked.

Ours was a different case - it was odds on that we would go down and the criticism is that the transfer fee thresholds were just ridiculously low - rather than the clauses in themselves being entirely inappropriate - given the point you make about persuading them to sign.

i think its a bit harsh to say ma got rid of the players-he had no choice with players such as ferdinand, bent though he could be blamed for those stupid clauses or was that dave bassett?

In that season 23 players where asked to leave, transfered on a free, left on a get out clause, requested to leave or left city for some other reason.
It is probably a record.

That was not coincedence, that was MA and the players dislike for him.

The fees we got for those players were higher than the fees we paid for them. And more than we got for Les Ferdinand when he left.
